lwelyk at The Gaming Dungeon writes about what he would like to see out of the next Pokemon game. While most of them are smaller changes aimed at fine-tuning the series to perfection, one is more radical and will never, ever happen.

It’s very unlikely that anyone reading this hasn’t played at least one Pokemon game. The Pokecraze lasted for years, and to this day it’s still extremely popular. The formula works, and while some changes would be nice, with minor changes we could have a perfect Pokemon game. A few of my ideas involve more radical changes though, but those are much less likely to be implemented.

By God this article was so true.
I've always dreamed of a Pokemon game where you don't have to trade to be able to complete your Pokedex and this would also make the game more enjoyable for those who don't have the game.

I know it would also have it's downfalls but I'm willing to put up with them for it and the ability to catch legendaries without events.

This article makes some fantastic points for the franchise. I consider Pokemon Blue to be hands down, THE definitive game of my life. No experience has come close. Therefore I tend to neglect change and evolution (clever wording there) of the series mechanics.

I hope they really do cap off the pokemon amount. Allow all pokemon to be caught right from the start. And more than anything else, I would like a story driven title. I believe they can stick with the "wanna catch them all" boy formula at the beginning, but allow the story to become subject to a deadly organisation or threat. The Team Aqua/Magma/Rocket/etc teams are there but they are never truly utilised.

I agree with all these points. The one about going back to old regions especially. Why do you think S/G/C was the best series out of em all?

For the console game, I can imagine something more on the action RPG side instead of turn based. Just imagine walking into a forest similar to those in LoZ, and then encountering pokemon and fighting em similar to an ActionRPG style.

Pokemon can become so much more, but it probably won't try since it's prime audience is kids tbh.

they got it right the first time, they don't need to change the gameplay. they have spin-offs, and console versions for that.

I know how Nintendo is. The fact that this article even exists means they're never gonna do it.

I agree with MusiKon in saying that Nintendo will never do this. But I really wish they would, though. This article sums up what everybody wants in a PokéMon game.

#3 is basically part of #2 - which is the only important one imo.

I agree with this pretty much completely, even the MMO idea.

Point #1 I think needs to be taken a step further though. Add absolutely no more Pokemon for a really decent amount of time (or perhaps kill some off, that could be hard though), and never any more legendary Pokemon. The term legendary is basically a joke now. There's so many of them.

For #5, I think it could be interesting to change it up so you actually play as the Pokemon themselves. You play Pokemon in the same way to a degree, except when your in battle, you gain control to do stuff, and it isn't turn based, it would be interesting to see how it goes. Maybe even dump everything else and just have the player controlling a Pokemon all the time, and have it so you can swap between a few other Pokemon you can become friends with through the game or something.

#6 - MMO idea is unlikely, but if it actually happened... I think it would be pretty awesome.

Same here, I couldn't imagine an official Pokémon MMO. Not just because of the maturity level of the community, but the cheaters and hackers would only ruin it more than ever.

I like how it says go back to old regions like in Gold/Silver/Crystal. When I found out I had a whole new region to play through it was like playing another game. 2 in 1. That game lasted me for over 190 hours.

Gold and Silver was the pinnacle of pokemon You cant change it man, if you change it its not pokemon anymore. Wanting trading to be abolished, and all pokemon to be obtainable from the get-go; making legendaries a little less legendary, and things like that, defeats the purpose of the game; in a game where its all about collection and adventure, if there's nothing special that you have to search for for 7 hours at 5am in the morning just so you can flaunt it and say you got it, then there's nothing worth collecting, and if theres nothing you have to trade for, it removes the whole point of collecting em, takes all the fun out of it, no longer any point in playing then is there?

I've been saying for some time, I want a Console (3D) version of the portable Pokemon games ~_~

If one wanted to get really ambitious, the aforementioned 3D version of the game, online....Lol, I already see it was mentioned (sorta) in the article. There actually IS an online Pokemon game, but I don't think it is a true MMO....Dunno if it is official either.

man 3D yeh that'd be awesome, they could do that on DS even, it's within the capabilities. Even if they just drop the camera angle down and bump the sprites up a bit, like animal crossing sort of thing. And like a free roam interactive thing going on. Think how much more engaging it'd be.
