TGS talks about the importance of competition in the gaming industry...and why fanboys can learn from the consoles they play! A fair article about the industry.

First off, this is not a fanboy article and will show zero favoritism to either Sony or Microsoft or their respective consoles, games and services. In fact, this article is the opposite of fanboyism and promotes acceptance of gaming prefrence everywhere.

With the above in mind, let us explore three major ways in which Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has increased gamer enjoyment on Sony’s PlayStation 3.

its the modern day arms-race man. from stones,to spears, to swords, to guns, to bigger guns, to tanks, to subs, to planes, to playstations and x-boxes and then to the death of us all.

Welcome to Capitalism 101, boys and girls.

Just as long as Sony or Microsoft tries something new or innovative, the other guy will try to one-up him.

Really, this process goes both ways. Granted, the PS3 has been a lot more influenced by the 360 than the 360 has by the PS3, but it's not like the 360 hasn't learned a thing or two in this process as well.

Mainly, people don't like console that are expected to fail.

Exactly; competition is healthy for the advancement of any technology or craft.

I like free online gaming. This is a practice done by both PC and the PS3. Granted, there are some games that have a monthly fee to them on the PC but those are mainly restricted to MMO's. It would be nice if LIVE was free. I'm not going to count Silver accounts because you cannot play with friends.

Yeh man, free live would be cool but I think we're living in a dream world on that one. They're gonna continue to put a price on it for as long as people are willing to pay for it; maybe when the x-box 360 starts to mature and die down a bit, they'll make Gold Live free as a means of squeezing a few more customers out of its life before it finally hangs up its controllers.

In most cases, people perform better under the pressure of competition, and take chances that could prove to be very great in succeeding or failing. Sony and Microsoft IMO are both doing very well to keep up with each other's advancements.
