In this Sunday Musing (now belated, blame the ragged last week), Neoseeker's Lydia Sung dives into the topic of downloadable content (DLC) and the issues surrounding it; it can be hard to tell what's crap and what's content that actually merits downloading sometimes, so let her help you out.

In such cases, DLC works a bit like expansions for PC games, extra content added after the fact. It's what most of us suspected DLC would be when it first came around for console games, but Capcom and Electronic Arts have recently rattled gamers by announcing planned DLC before their games are released.

I agree wholeheartedly with the pre-planned DLC. I have a huge problem with that; why bother planning the DLC pre-release when you could just save us all some money and just put it on the game disc itself, instead of releasing it a month later for an additional $9.9?. It's just a huge corporate cash grab, really.
