I have seen too many articles that slag off Home's free service but luckily not everyone is going to stand by. Resume Play defend Sony's virtual world with high prospects for the service's future.

The Playstation Home Beta has been around for some time now, gathering hordes of curious Playstation users to experience Sony’s virtual world. However, this free online service has come under attack by critics everywhere, accusing it of being too bland, hardly expandable and even going onto say “a total waste of hard drive space.” I personally find this an unfair analogy of an ever-growing FREE service that is still in BETA form. Though available to everyone with a Playstation 3, the word BETA implies that it’s not yet the finished product, and so doesn’t deserve such harsh judgements. A few “problems” critics moan about are the lack of spaces, the fees placed on items and also issues of availability.

I think for what it is, it's doing a good job. People are expecting too much out of this system where it is virtually a chat room with TONS more interacting.

The problem and the reason why so many people criticize Home is because it's future has looked bright for years now. How long can you expect people to be content with looking forward to something?

People are still hanging out for Duke Nukem Forever.

Something free can still suck and be a waste of time. Just accept it. Nothing is gained or lost by ignoring Home, but to defend it by countering every legitimate criticism with "yeah but it's free, how could you not like something if it's free?" is just as much of a waste of time.

mau, you make a good point, but it was Sony that MADE those expectations by hyping it for years. I don't blame people that thought it would be great - that's all they heard for two friggin years.

Couldn't agree more, in the last article people were talking about how stupid it was to hate so much on a beta.

Here's the thing, Halo 3 did an open beta and it was pretty much a demo. If you launch something this big, that's how you have to do it. You can't expect the general public to understand what a beta is, much less deal with the poor performance.

I've been on HOME about 2 or 3 times and the only thing I find fun to do on it is play Bowling or pool but then when you want a game you have to wait ages as there arn't many lanes/tables.

I think I might as well just delete HOME.

If you really want to play, then do this: if the lanes are full, back out of the area, then go back to it. You may end up on a less-crowded server and get a chance quicker than waiting for people to finish playing.

To be honest, I think those who hate HOME should just leave it alone then. Delete it, and move on . . . that would be the wise thing. HOME's whole point is to get the community together, and that's what it is: a big place for people to meet up from around the world.

But to constantly hate on HOME is ridiculous. It's like your punching your fists at a pond of water, because you don't like the taste of it. If you don't like it, then don't drink it! Go drink some Sprite, it tastes better! But beating at it does nothing at all. It's not like you'll break it, you'll just wear yourself out AND annoy those who are trying to actually enjoy a drink because you keep splashing it.

Those who DO enjoy it, shouldn't force others to enjoy it either, or call those who don't like it, idiots or something. "It's a pond! It's free, how can you not like it?!" "Uhh . . . because of my personal tastes?" BUT . . . they can complain about the people banging their fists in the water, ruining their own enjoyment.

No one is forcing anyone to use and enjoy HOME. And if you're simply upset about the hype, then fine, we get it, you don't like it. But let other people make up their own minds on whether THEY like it or not. Just like you wouldn't enjoy being forced to use and enjoy HOME, don't try to force others to hate and not use HOME.
