The Wii is slowing down in sales as the PS3 and XBOX360 are favored by more and more fans. Is the Wii fad finally fading away? Is this the beginning of the end?

The Wii is a fashion trinket, a fad that gets everyone excited and then promptly fades away. However, unlike every other fad worth its salt, the Wii refused to vanish into popular memory. The ugly, outdated and horrifically overpriced (especially where I live, it costs $370 here) console with possibly the worst gaming library in the history of videogaming will not die. The stupid thing was being bought all the time and there was a constant short-stock of it. I'm certain the Wii factory was operated by monkeys to make sure the supply would stay low and the price would stay high. Black Friday would turn into a bloodbath as people eviscerated each other to get hold of the Wii.

    wii hate is stupid.

It's not a fad and certainly not a toy, there are several things going for it.
Some things I do agree there, while others I semi agree but feel less strongly about. Honestly the wii is a good console with several good games, it just had it's name tarnished by stupid publishers, Nintendo included.

But like I said before, wii hate is wii hate so no point in arguing.

As for the slow in sales, well it's about time the wii cooled down, but that doesn't mean the Xbox and PS3 won, it simply means that after, what 2 and a half almost 3 years the wii has been continuosly sold out.

And this isn't that much of a big deal anyways with the release of the DSi to cover it. Assuming its selling well.

The Wii isn't a bad console in itself. It's the software that sucks. Basic stuff really.

That's like saying 'the bread doesn't suck, it was the dough that made it'. People say the Wii sucks, because the technology sucks.

That said though, before people start flaming, it's all a matter of opinion when it comes down to it. If you like the Wii in spite of it not being as technologically advanced, good for you.

If having the most advanced hardware was the defining factor we all would have had Neo Geos. Obviously, that's not what happened.

The reality is that the niche gamers allowed their self-importance to reach a point where anything beyond their norm is unpossible to them.

I disagree. It's not about having the most advanced hardware but it IS about having an adequate balance, most people believing the Wii lacks SEVERELY in the technology front. If the Wii had better technology and allowed for the capabilities the PS3 and 360 have whilst keeping the same innovative motion technology, everyone would love it, but Nintendo don't care about that. It's not about people not liking the ideology of it, for a long time now people have dreamed of this kind of thing, it's about people not liking the actual Wii because of its limitations.

What's with all the fanboy crap lately? It's like they were rapped by the friggin console itself or something... if you don't like the console then go sell it and buy a PS3.

PS.If you don't have the moolah then get out of your house and find a job buddy!

    PSS. Dumbest/Useless article EVER...

lol, whats the point of posting this?
Wii fanboys didn't post the Wii sales that were raping the competition for the past 2 years.

No, but they did post the many articles from other sites posting the sales.

Case in point: People post articles for three reasons; to genuinely share articles they have found enjoyable or informative, to get people to go to their site or to boost their GG points, meaning anything game-related, needless hatred or not, is fair game.

For the last few years it was mostly Sony, though more then enough Microsoft hatred was thrown around too.

As of late, it is Nintendo who the band-wagoning masses are hating on for site-traffic. Simply put; no point letting it annoy you or anything, it's just how these game news sites work. Hate on what is currently being hated. Welcome to the internet.

That's where I stopped reading. A blog article is no good when the author is horrificly biased.

      And how!

While its library can't compare to any other Nintendo console (and most handhelds) it definitely beats the PS3 hands down (LittleBig Planet and MGS4, then we get ironically toned-down multiplats). Although the quality/quantity of its titles compared to the 360 is debatable, it definitely has more variety.

The Game Cube remains my favorite platform though...

What respect? That sliced bread vs. DS argument should have burned that all up for both of us.

But really, what caused that sudden drop in my Tiger of Wu's respect stat?

Tiger of Wu Apr 26, 09
Ironically, that back and forth probably made me have more respect for you.

          As for the sudden drop, it was due to this;
          quote
it [Nintendo Wii's library of games] definitely beats the PS3 hands down (LittleBig Planet and MGS4, then we get ironically toned-down multiplats)
There are opinions, and if your opinion is that the Wii has a better library then, fair enough. However, to say that is just plain ignorant.

To state your opinion is ignorant?

To say THAT is ignorant. Although don't worry, I stopped caring about your respect a long time ago

Prove me wrong, name a few PS3 exclusives that will become classics in the future.

If you want me to name some Wii titles first I will!

Tiger of Wu Apr 28, 09
No. Why should I? What will I gain from that, other then yet another pointless argument on Gamegrep? You see, you don't want to discuss this in the slightest, you just want to prove yourself right and are so goddamn arrogant about it you're basing your thoughts on things you quite blatantly don't know about.

So no, I'm not going to. There is no point, since you really don't care in the first place.

Ya know, I just though of something, perhaps the Wii doesn't seem to have many spectacular games as other Nintendo systems is because IT'S NOT AT THE END OF ITS LIFE YET.

    King_X2 Apr 25, 09
I enjoy the Wii, mainly because it's fun to stand up and play rather than sit down once in a while. It does have some good games, believe it or not, but even those aren't for real gamers. Simply put, if you're a causal gamer, you're more likely to get a Wii (like me).

And yeah, I find the constant few stock of them to be quite annoying.

    Livewire_19 Apr 25, 09
I still know of many people that still want a Wii and haven't bought one yet, and really the Wii is the only console choice for those people (families with kids, older people, ect).

So I think that as soon as there's a price cut, Wii sales will be back to it's normal crazy levels.
Whether we like it or not the Wii isn't a fad is not going to disappear anytime soon.

I don't see why the Wii NEEDS to have more fans then the other systems. There are constantly new games being made by Nintendo and other developers that sell way more then games for other systems do.

I don't own one, but you still have to respect what it has done

Respect what? Sales numbers? Anything outside of that, and the Wii is a disappointment.

Obviously disregarding the fact it caters to the Casual audience who have been practically ignored for a long time, as well as gettng hundreds of people into gaming, who whilst at present may just play games for a bit of fun are likely to become gamers themselves over time, whilst also adding a vast assortment (Of gimmicky and some outright stupid but still effective) family games and is the only console that's genuinely opened gaming up to more than just the typical audience.
There's also the fact whether you like it or not, Nintendo were willing to gamble with the control system. And said control system arguably makes several genres far better, the issue with the Wii in regards to that is the lack of more powerful software and developer support. Needless to say the games that do make good use of the controller are brilliant (Considering hardware limitations admittedly) and more and more solid titles are being developed for it.

And call me crazy but wasn't Nintendo's aim to make profit? And the Wii did that, heck if did far better than anyone expected it too, I doubt Nintendo realised just how big the Wii would become 'fad' or not. It did what it was meant to do, and damn well at that.

There's more content here than your average fanboy rant but ultimately it's still a rant.
