After the countdown of the mysterious www.tu4ar.com elapsed, it was confirmed that the highly anticipated Marvel vs Capcom 2 is in fact coming to XBLA and PSN sometime this summer. And its complete with new features, such as HD sprites!

Also, a demo for the US PSN is coming this week, with Europe's to soon follow.

In what will inevitably go down as the worst kept industry secret in recent years, I’m very happy to finally be able to confirm that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this summer.

The deal took a good while but it’s probably our most requested title to bring back, so Marvel and I and a few other people here at Capcom rolled up our sleeves and got it done. I can’t stress enough, if you ask for something loudly enough and long enough, we’ll work very hard to make it happen.

Doesn't Activision own the rights to Marvel games now?

Yeah, but I'm sure they and Capcom can come to some agreement. Their crossover fighting franchise must have brought in a huge profit.

Read this on the PS Blog last night. I never played the game but was interested in it. It's a shame they didn't revamp the graphics, BUT that's expected. It's not a new game, just bringing a classic to the PSN and XBLA

If the game is that good though, they should make themselves another one, eh?

Capcoms said that this was the last one in the Marvel vs Capcom series. there are 4 games in the series: X-Men vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter and then MVC 1 and 2.

sadly Capcom said they dont plan on making anymore, so i think this was like their "farewell tribute" for the fans.

I thought it was some contract situation between Marvel and Capcom that stopped the franchise.

Are y'all serious?! Man I was getting my hopes up for another one as I was reading through comments made by John Diamonon from Capcom! He kept joking about it and noted numerous times that he knows the fanbase would love to see another one.

Well I'm glad at least that I can get the chance to play this one now. I've never played the others.

Lol, a demo coming out? Jesus, the game is 7 years old, isn't it? I'm not sure a demo is doing anyone any good.

The game is confirmed. That's the big news. A demo is good for people who never played the game.

believe it or not there are some who still havent played it. its pretty shocking considering how damn good the game is, but there are. i of course dont care when or if 360 gets a demo cause i dont NEED a demo. im getting the game the second its released.

I haven't played the game.I started playing fighting games with Tekken 3 so I never wanted to play 2D fighters.

It wasn't till I played KOF Maximum Impact which I thought was awesome and decided to play the 2D ones that I became interested in 2D fighters.

Dude, they're even having teaser trailers. I think Capcom is just starting to get a bit ridiculous lately. I don't remember seeing any Suikoden or Jet Moto 2 demos when those games were released on the Playstation Store. =/

I can understand a demo for the 360 because they seem to do that with most all of their games, but it's strange to see one on the PSN too.

I for one am VERY glad for a demo. I never got to play the game or anything, and I'd like to before I buy the game. The video is fine, but it doesn't show me HOW well it is played and the controls and the different style of fighting for the characters. Those are the things I want to see and know before buying.

the video is actually pretty lame HisServant, it just shows Ryu and Wolvie fighting each other like 2 old geezers. Ryu spams fireballs and Wolvie just slashes a few times and does Berserker Barrage a couple times. trust me its a boring video. they have so many different moves, as well as Wolvie is super fast and really good at combos (which is why i love him).

plus, they didnt even show off super and hyper combos, which is where 2 or 3 of your characters all perform their super move at the same time. its one of the coolest parts of the game, trying to figure out the best 3 characters to use that can put out the most damage with their hyper combo.

Glad to hear the video wasn't a good representation, because I saw it but it didn't seem that interesting--which is why I'm really liking a demo of the game.

This will probably be a game that I will find worthy to download. I just hope it isn't $15 or anything. Anyone down to fight when released?
    • 1
      Shinobi_razor Apr 28, 09
actually it will be $15 (1200 MS points). its well worth it though. many of us would pay twice that for it.

        pooOBKp Apr 29, 09
$15 is a low price for a game, I'd still rather spend it on other things. I guess when the game is released I'll go ahead and do whatever at that moment.

          Storm Apr 29, 09
It is a low price, alright. Just eBay the title and see how much it goes for now.

I went and checked it, I still feel that it's a lot. I don't really like buying PSN/XBLA games if they're past $10. I don't know why that is I just don't like to do it. It is considerably cheaper than the $50 that eBay has them for.

          HisServant77 Apr 29, 09
I completely understand, pooOBKp. I'm kinda the same way. 15 seems like a lot for a PSN game. It's not really, but still . . .

I still want this game, but may hold off on it for a little bit.

          Moonrise Apr 29, 09
It's not really a PSN or XBA game though. This game was and is a legitimate, full fledged fighting game.

          HisServant77 Apr 29, 09
Yes that's another thing I'm considering about the price. Well actually it's the ONLY thing I'm considering for the reasoning behind the price. It's a full-fledged PS2 game, isn't it? Not even PS1, but PS2!

          Shinobi_razor Apr 29, 09
well yeah but actually its based from the DC version, the PS2 and Xbox versions were a bit different and considered by fans to be inferior to DC.
        • 1
          Moonrise Apr 30, 09
The versions were basically the same except for control...There weren't any framerate issues between the versions or anything really "removed", as I recall.
        • 0
          HisServant77 Apr 30, 09
Ah, then I suppose that's good that it's based on the DC version if many thought of the PS2 as not as good as the DC

You guys make good points and I see where you're all coming from. I guess it's just me, I'll just play the demo, when released, and see if it's something that I'd enjoy playing after a week or two.

i believe there were framerate issues with the Xbox version. when i played it last, it didnt seem as fast as in arcade.

You should probably turn up the actual game speed then. There's Normal, Turbo, and Turbo2. Arcades are generally at least running at Turbo.

As long as everything is in working order, i'm fine plunking down $15 for it.

        McClubbin Apr 30, 09
15 bucks is amazing for the game. I'm surprised they didn't charge higher (I'm not too sure that they can in the first place) since the fan base would gladly pay more. I had to dish out $70 to get the original one for the Xbox, only to find that the character sprites weren't emulated properly. I'll gladly drop another $15 to have the game running smoothly and in HD.

    Never played it!

I used some of the characters in MUGEN though. Is Venom, Carnage, Pacman, and Sabertooth in this game?

I think Venom is but not the other 3, could be wrong tho, havnt played in years.

      iLLmatic Apr 30, 09
Venom and Sabretooth are in it, Carnage is not. I don't believe Pac-Man has anything to do with Marvel or Capcom, so..

      Venom and Saber are though.
