That Gaming Site reveals four major signs that indicate the next big video game flop. Great article designed to keep gamers from wasting their money on bad games.

Every game on every system is hyped and marketed as the greatest title in the history of the world before release. Games are expensive and publishers and developers need to sell copies, a lot of them, to recoup the costs of development. The bad part is that Mr. Unaware Consumer ends up shelling out sixty USD for a game that blows because a video on YouTube makes the latest piece of HD gaming crap look excellent.

Ouch ! Sucks to be Too Human. What a burn to be used as the image for this story.

True, but the game is a good example of failing to meet expectations, arguably one of the biggest this gen. Its not that it was a horrible game, its the hype it generated and didn't come close to meeting.

I'm not sure about that. I haven't played it so I can't say for certain, but from the many reviews I read, it seemed like the title had fundamental design problems.

Nice article, it doesn't mention the 30-day blitz though.

If you don't hear anything about a game for ages, then get bombarded by shiny images and ads over the 30 days just prior to launch - watch out! It's an indication that the game doesn't have what it takes to keep your interest.

This doesn't just happen to games though, movies do the same thing. I'm guessing it's the same for music and maybe books, but I haven't first-hand experience with those so I can't say for certain.

    Cheers,
    Adrian

A lack of a demo also makes me wonder if the game is worth getting.

I think frequent delays can be another major factor. Too Human and Two Worlds went through a lot of delays and their release dates were constantly being pushed back.

Alas, Monster Hunter 3 will be epic, regardless of the console.

The casual crap did what it was supposed to, the Nintendo games did what the ywere supposed to, and the good games on the Wii only flopped-sales wise. I can't think of any game of the Wii that truely 'flopped' to be honest, except possibly Madworld but people were very on the fence with that anyway.
Anyway I'll stop being a miserable joke-killer now XD

Biggest sign a game will flop? People hype it. Doesn't matter how good the game is, if you hype a game up it'll never live up to the expectations.
Although I disagree with the 'pipeline' argument, a lot of games that don't get developers don't because they're unique or relatively controversial, most bad games don't seem to have any trouble getting developers tbh.

Changing the developers of a game kills it too.

Remember Def Jam 1 and 2, great games.

Egos got inflated, then studios got changed, and Def Jam Icon was horrible.
