Everyone knows that Ocarina of Time is one of the best Zelda games ever created. What a lot of people didn't know, including myself, is that Miyamoto apparently wanted the game to be in first person, not third person. If the game didn't have Link showed as both a child and as an adult, that probably would have happened.
So now, we all know a new Zelda game is in works for the Wii, and there's a lot of people with high hopes that this Zelda game will be revealed at E3. Miyamoto went down to Retro Studios himself, suggesting the game be in first person. Personally, it will be weird trying to play a Zelda game in first person and not third; I've played every single Zelda game and every single game was in third person. It will take some adjusting and getting used to, but I think it could work out. Seems like this might be a welcomed idea.
We know a new Zelda is in the works for Wii, and a lot of fans want it to be shown at this year’s E3. GDC brought us a unique DS Zelda that involves trains, but what will the console version give us.
Ocarina of Time, for it’s time, was a hugely popular and creative title for not only Zelda but for the genre as well. What many people don’t know is that Miyamoto wanted this Zelda to be in a first person perspective. This never came to be since Nintendo wanted to show Link as a child and an adult, but it did make it into another game, Metroid Prime.
While in development, Miyamoto visited Retro Studios and suggested they make the game a FPS. This feature was a huge risk for the franchise, yet in the end has paid off, because of it’s advantages for not only a shooter but for exploration as well. Something Miyamoto has stated before with Zelda:
"I thought that the FPS system would be the best way of enabling players to take in the vast terrain of the Hyrule Field. Besides, by not having the player's character on the screen, we can spend more time and machine power on creating enemies and the environments.”
This might sound a little drastic, and some fans might not like this but Miyamoto keeps stating that Nintendo will take the Zelda franchise on a different route.
“I think that Zelda is a franchise that does need some big new unique ideas. And so the team right now is very focused on trying to find those ideas.”
With Miyamoto wanting a first person feature for Zelda on the N64, then making Metroid a FPS on the Gamecube, will this gen finally be the time Zelda went first person? It wouldn’t surprise us.

And would suck.Even if they did though, I love the series so much I would get it anyways....
Anything to make the series feel fresh.
Zelda on the other hand, is something that needs to stay in the 3rd person action adventure genre in order to be Zelda.
Besides, Nintendo can do whatever they god damn please, they are number one, they have such a rabid loyal fanbase who'd buy it if they turned it into a hentai game.
It'll be an on rails slasher.
Besides I take long enough to find switches as is. Unless the brought back a fairy that flew over to all of them but where would the fun in that be?
