A look at how Bethesda is trying to steal exclusive rights for the Fallout franchise and how low they are willing to sink to get it done. A Bethesda Fallout MMO? They can't even get DLC right!

Why would Zenimax and Bethesda buy the exclusive Fallout rights? Quite simply, ownership leverage. Acquiring the licensing rights allows Zenimax to set ludicrous conditions for Interplay and purposely led them to believe they would still be working on the MMO.

Tbh with you, that's your opinion about the DLC not being right.

I think it is perfect and has given me hours of extra play for Fallout 3, i have no idea how you can come to the assumption of the DLC not being right.

And i couldn't care less about this, game companies do it all the time, it's all about the money.

      Right on FFF -

I also have to say that the title for this is in poor taste. The guys at Bethesda are far from "greedy" - there are good people over there and until you've met with them and see how far they've come as a company, it is a bit inflammatory and bad journalism (dare I say tabloid delicious) to start name calling. That said they aren't trying to "steal" the rights. They rightfully purchased them, and with the addition of securing the "movie" rights earlier this year, they are trying to keep a franchise they now own secure. Poor taste Zikron, imho. poor taste.

Well for millions that downloaded the DLC on day one. They were hit with glitches often really bad glitches that corrupted save files, crashed the console and made it absolutely unplayable. So yeah it was perfect...

As for the whole Bethesda deal i think it is terrible, Interplay have wanted to make this game since 1998, 10 years later they found themselves out of business because they were small fish in a big pond. Now Bethesda come along, take their Van Buren: Fallout 3 project for tiny tiny money and retool it against the lore of Fallout, changed the story to something dumbed down and barely aduly in comparison to Fallout 1 and 2 and in my mind ruined it.

Bethesda did let Interplay start on Fallout MMO but under such stupid legal clauses like 40% of all subscriptions go to Bethesda, Interplay have to make the game in under 18 months. MMO's take upwards of 6 years to make, World of Warcraft wasn't developed in 18 months that's for sure. Since Interplay probably won't succeed in doing that because Bethesda didn't fund the project merely took more money from Interplay. I mean how harsh can you be you buy the Fallout licence for stupid money and sell it back to the creators for 16 times the price knowing they cannot afford it.

I hope Fallout MMO by Bethesda fails hard because what they have done is worse than anything Microsoft or Sony, hell even EA could have done to a small time almost indie development team. Interplay had a love for games, they had a love for Role Playing Games. Interplay has been there it funded Baldur's Gate without it we wouldn't have BioWare, Carmageddon, Fallout by Black Isle Studios who are now called Obsidian Interactive. Interplay is almost an institution among gaming and to me it's sad that Bethesda are toying with them and pretty much trying to put them back into financial ruin just because they have the power.

Interplay 'was' an institution among gaming - key word is WAS. Just like Atari - you can say the name is an institution, but it has no semblance to the great legacy before name changes and brand aquisition rights... Point is, I hear your history, but you are overexaggerating the facts and are being a tad melodramatic.. Bethesda isn't out to screw gamers, or Interplay. I've met guys there - they are good people that seriously care about the Fallout brand and have been working hard to protect it from those wanting to cash in.

We don't know all the facts surrounding the Interplay MMO. With the economy the way it is and cost of development, if I was Bethesda I too would be very picky about a license I now owned, achieved great financial success with - and that could easily be ruined by one poor product. Development houses with more resources than this reborn'd Interplay are closing up; it isn't toying with them Daweii - it is called common busines sense. Bethesda is being smart with their property and the development of titles connected to the license.

I'm anxious to see how Obsidian Entertainment's Alpha Protocol turns out. It seems to me they are going a little TOO Mass Effect, but I'm still really looking forward to it. ..

They can do what they want, Bethesda owns the right and interplay doesn't.

I loved Fallout 1+2 far more than 3, but I don't think anyone, not even Interplay if they assembled all the best talent they had over the years, could make a good Fallout MMORPG.

Lol I've given up regarding any of "Angry-gamers.net" articles, they are full of pretty much nothing, just empty rants with no facts behind them, nothing to give as evidence to back up their angry claims and pretty much the worst journalism I've ever seen...no wait scratch that, they are better than Ed Zitron I suppose.

Either way, Bethesda have done nothing wrong here, they aren't trying to kill Interplay...Interplay did that pretty much themselves and are trying to claw back by defying the fact that they are near bankrupcy. Bethesda have infact given Interplay a lifeline PROVIDING that Interplay have something to show for it once the deadline approaches. So far Interplay have nothing to show and like any other business person would do, they would revoke the rights from Interplay and give it to someone else.

At the end of the day Bethesda are a business out to make money, they bought the rights to Fallout (rumours only stated that Beth Soft had rights for a 3D version of the Fallout world but Beth Soft pretty much have owned the rights to the franchise as early as 2004, possibly even earlier)

Also just lol at the Bethesda haters just because they messed up some DLC, grow up and give them a break, they aren't perfect...they are human, HUMAN they can, do and will make mistakes...every bloody one of you should recognise that as I am sure you have all made mistakes
