TheGamerAccess.com has just published a new article talking about the innovation of DLC and what effect it has had on the gaming industry. They explain how prices of DLC can truly determine how well the DLC actually sells depending on the quality of the content.

There’s a new dawn upon us in the way our games are delivered. When once it was necessary to get into your car, local bus, or walk to a store near you to get your gaming fix; now you can sit in the comfort of your own home and get a lot of your gaming needs. Games are now being offered with most of your online gaming services. Microsoft offers us XBLA (Xbox Live Aracade), Sony offers us PSN titles (Playstation Network titles) and Nintendo offers us VC titles (Virtual Console titles).

DLC is something that I've seen being abused over and over again.

There are 2 types of DLC in my eyes, the good kind, and the money sapping kind.

It depends on the developer really, make it crappy like RE5's dlc, or good like GTA's dlc.

I just wonder how far some companies will abuse DLC.

Honestly, I think it really has to do with price and the amount you get from it. I can't justify spending 20 dollars on a map pack because I really don't care for FPS. But right now I'm considering buying the DLC for Mass Effect (5 dollars) but I'm a little miffed that the PC version of it is free.

Some DLC is worth the money, because it actually adds something entertaining to the game, and some isn't. That's just how it is. Can't really name all DLC "CRAP" just because you didn't like that map pack, or that costume, now can ya?

It's definitely a case by case basis. Some games have done it splendidly, others not so much.
