Jim Sterling (Destructoid) defends himself over FFXIII review

The announcement of Super Mario Galaxy 2 was one of the highlights of Nintendo's E3 press conference, with many fans excited about playing the next chapter in Mario's 3D adventures.
But was the announcement a bad omen? Did it crystalise everything Nintendo is doing wrong lately? Gamesradar thinks so, and here's why...
What did you think of Nintendo’s E3 press conference then? The usual inane blandathon, drenched in the acrid juices of casual lifestyle aspiration? Though so. But at least they gave us a look at the new Mario game. One of those can save any year’s line-up, right? Well no. On reflection we don’t think that’s the case any more.
In fact we feel that rather than the glowing beacon of inventive hardcore lovin’ we’ve come to expect, Super Mario Galaxy 2 actually crystalises everything the current Nintendo is doing wrong. It could even be a death knell. Stay with us on this one.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still picking it up nonetheless since Reggie said the difficulty is being upped, keeping the core audience in mind.
I wasn't too satisfied with E3 08, but SMG2 should be fun.
Wii Fit is not killing the goddamn industry. Nintendo is not imploding on itself. "Hardcore" gamers are not as important as 95% of them think they are; this goes to fanboys and non-fanboys alike.
What happened to just playing games that are and will be fun, and not try to tell other people that their tastes suck based on bullshit-filled self-contrived notions of what a "game" should be.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be an awesome game. Isn't that all that really matters?
Sorry, but there's no happy medium between these two things. Not just for Nintendo either.
Its basically the original metroid!
Fans have been shouting at nintendo for a 2.5D metroid ever since it made the jump to 3D.
Dread was supposed to be Other M but it was cancelled and know that this finally showed up, metroid fans can shut the hell up about what Retro did to metroid. (even if I think they made it better)
A 2.5 metroid was the only thing that saved ninty from totally selling my wii. That and Silent hill.
And if Reggie really did read the blogs he would have changed EVERYTHING shown in Nintendos E3 conference.
Everything.
Its okay if you don't like the other M. But it is a real metroid game.
Hell even that game didn't make me wish I got that hour back from nintendo's conference. Total waste of my time.
Its Super Mario Galaxy, BUT WITH YOSHI!
Haha, seems that way, doesn't it?
We probably wouldn't see an evolution of a Mario platformer until the next gen console anyway if past track record is anything to go by.
This is why I don't read Gamesradar anymore. Their articles are idiotic flame bait, all of them.
It looks the same? MGS:Rising will look the same as MGS4, except with a different person you'll see the back of all the time. MGS:R and SMG2 have no difference in this regard; they'll both be running off of existing engines, except you have different locales to deal with.
I'm not saying "OMG MGS:R is going to be the same as MGS4". Likewise, you can't say for sure that Galaxy 2 will bring nothing new to the table yet.
That and Nintendo's not the only one that does as you say. Not in a million years.
Not galaxy 2, which just implies that its going to be Galaxy again with some new stuff added. Same ole characters, same ole bad guys, same ole gameplay. Just watch.
Any EA sport title will show you that.
Final Fantasy
Metal Gear Solid
Super Mario Bros.
etc. etc. etc.
lol.
The series I listed off are those that have had games that brought something new to the table while also being "numbered".
Much like materialize and materialise.
