Most games go through many changes between their first announcement and when they go gold. Some change so much they are barely recognisable. Gamesradar have listed a handful of games that drastically changed during development...

Most games usually require a lot of touch-up work during their development before they're ready for release. Usually it's nothing major. A haircut for the main character here, the occasional unintentionally offensive Arabic song removed there. Some games, though, go through more than mere cosmetic changes. The following collection of titles all changed drastically during their development cycles. Sometimes for the better. Sometimes not.

Very interesting list. I wonder how these games would have turned out without the changes.

Conker's Bad Fur Day was definitely the biggest change. That game went from being the cutest sickly-sweet Disney-movie-looking game, to a dual-wielding/cigar smoking/foul mouthed alcoholic squirrel roaming the cruel-land in a drunken haze.

It also went from being "just another crappy kids game" to one of the greatest games of all time. So the change was definitely the right one.

Lol, Conker's Bad Fur Day's comparison was awesome. All nice and peachy, and all of a sudden "*bleep* OFF!"

It originally started life as a high flying, John Woo-esque action game. Considered too big a departure from previous games, the project eventually morphed into Devil May Cry.
Considering how the current RE4 bears little resemblance to the older games in the series, I kinda find this funny.

Okami turned out into a uniquely amazing graphical gem; however, I think the game would've been more epic if Clover Studio maintained the original 3D plan.
