Koku Gamer looks at the way FF 14 can surpass FF 11. They mention some thing such as character variety, voice acting, combat expending and such. To avoid some things that FF XI had.
One of the bigger announcements at this years E3 was Sony’s reveal that not only was SquareEnix working on Final Fantasy XIII but that they were also hard at work on Final Fantasy XIV . This came as quite a shock to the gaming populace as for quite some time Square was insistent that Project Rapture would not be a game in the Final Fantasy universe. Yet here we are with Final Fantasy XIV Online. Being a veteran of Final Fantasy XI since the US launch of the game this excited me quite a bit and I began to think what I would like to see and more importantly what XIV needs to surpass XI. What follows is just such a list.

That is all.
Have no monthly/yearly/whatever fee.
Make World of Warcraft, replace everyone with androgynous characters, and you have a great Final Fantasy MMO.
His comment wasn't baseless, and it certainly wasn't moronic, IMO.
Like Zerpent said, at it's height, FFXI had about 2 million subscribers, while World of Warcraft has about 11.5 million still today. Neither of those numbers are bad, but by that comparison alone, FFXI wasn't/isn't very popular.
I'm not saying it is or isn't a popular or successful game in general, but I'm just saying that it sort of depends on your point of view and what you compare it to. I somehow doubt that DragonPirateZolo know the number of subscribers to most MMO's, which is a good excuse, so it's easy to not know exactly what are great numbers.
Btw, why do you care if it's an insult to the dev team or the fans? Have you never said something sucked? Surely you've said something insulting about a TV show, or a movie, or a video game.
I'm not trying to attack you or anything like that, but I just see no reason to insult DragonPirateZolo.
But I can't say I'm all that appreciative of people who run their mouths in that manner. Especially when it's about a game that I've enjoyed and is a part of a series that is dear to me. Not to sound like a shameless fangirl, but it bugs me.
And my intention wasn't to insult him. Just his statement. Which I maintain was silly and lacked any significant thought to it.
The 2 million CHARACTERS (not players) was reached a few months ago.
I don't think I said when the game was at it's height...I just said that there were about 2 million players at it's height according to Zerpent.
And the time of the game's height is irrelevant to the point I was trying to make, as far as I can see.
