New Challenger: 3 Reasons Why Gaming Will Destroy Itself Part 1

Ecks of The Gaming Dungeon takes a look at eight things that annoy him in his favorite genre, Role Playing Games, in hope that companies will avoid them in future. Hint: they won't.
I am a very big RPG fan. Since the SNES era I’ve been in love the genre. However as time has gone on, I’ve found myself more and more frustrated with the elements found in certain RPG’s. Usually these flaws aren’t a large problem and for the most part are fairly brief, but that doesn’t make me forget that these bothersome elements and missing functions limited the experience I had with an otherwise great game. “What kind of functions” you ask? Well…

For example: How do you obtain the Zodiac Spear in FFXII? Well, naturally, you make sure NOT to open certain random treasure chests in the game, otherwise, the spear will disappear. Really, Square? Really? Is that intuitive in the slightest? How the hell would you figure that out on your own? Screw you.
Pretty good list.
For anyone who doesn't know, the Zodiac Spear is an ultimate weapon you get near the end of the game, but there are three - yes, three treasure chests (that are just like every other normal chest in the game, same random placement, same crappy loot, nothing special about them) that if you open any one of those three treasure chests, chests which any gamer who didn't know about the Zodiac Spear before they even started playing the freakin' game, would open, the spear cannot be obtained.
Really, Square? Really?
That's like Bungie releasing a new Halo game, and in the last level if you go out of your way you can get a freakin' awesome gun that owns everything, but wait! If, during the course of the game, you picked up any of the three special weapons, that are exactly like any other of the numerous weapons scattered throughout the map, then too freakin' bad!
But it's not, i just finished playing the main story and you can easily pause the cutscenes, all you have to do is press the xbox guide button and it'll pause.

But seriously, thats my main pet-peeve. As for the article, I agree with the creator about long, drawn-out animations and limited EXP gains at times. Those can be annoying.
Oddly I never really cared about the long attack sequences in SOA. Meh.
