Jim Sterling of Destructoid gives some quick thoughts on Sony ruining the PS3. He goes very light on them imo, as I could easily have contributed a lot more quotes from the company that easily affect the outlook people have on the system, still, he does love his PS3, and that is what counts.

I have earned myself a reputation as a "Sony basher" and a "PS3 hater" by people who clearly do not know the difference between the two. Contrary to popular belief, I do not hate the PlayStation 3. In fact, I love it, and at the time of writing, it is my favorite current-generation console. This could change in the future, as my favorite system is decided by what games are appealing to me at any given moment, not by which one my Mommy and Daddy just happened to get me for Christmas. Right now, the PS3 is top of my chart.

However, it is true that I bash Sony, frequently and without mercy. This is because I do love the PS3, and all I see is a company squandering a great piece of technology and mindlessly posturing instead of taking the time to examine its own faults. Sony is acting like it's king of the hill, like it's the industry leader, when it's currently holding third place.

I'm a Sony basher, but it's only because I don't hate the PS3, not because I do. The simple fact of the matter is this: Sony needs to *bleep*, because the constantly flapping mouths of the platform holder's PR department is the single biggest problem the PlayStation 3 has.

Actually a pretty interesting read. Of course you have the usual comments like, "I don't care what you say, who are you to bash my favorite console. Crybaby!"

    The Internet is so predictable.

Sony never intended to compete against the Wii, neither did Microsoft. So technically it's in second place. Not that it's any better, but the competition between MS and Sony is a lot more feasible than both going up against a monolith.

It's like saying that The GTX295 compete with the 8600gt because they are graphic cards.
The Wii brought a new CONCEPT , BUT the Wii mote is a toy.
What Sony is bringing is an "effective Wii mote" , and it concern ONLY people interested in the Wii Mote CONCEPT , not the Wii mote itself.
Natal is a whole different story , it doesn't even need a "tool", so let's see what Microsoft has plan for the gameplay.

They're not competing to see who can make the better toys. They're competing to see who can get the most people to buy the toys. So yes, Natal, Wii and whatever the PS3mote-type things is (I haven't bothered to find out due to a lack of interest) are all competing with each other, since they're their respective companies' niche appeal tools.

Except neither MS nor Sony are putting absolute support in their motion controllers, whereas the Wii is. To me, these new motion control designs from MS and Sony are more like afterthoughts than anything; neither the PS3 or the 360 really needs them.

Yeah, they don't need them. But they have them. So they're competing with Ninty on this one. Regardless of whether they aren't going all out with it they're still competing with them. Many a MMORPG is released knowing full well it will NEVER be as succesful as WoW, but that doesn't mean they aren't competing with it.

And don't be under any delusions; if these new toys become anywhere near as succesful as the Wii first was at least half of the company will be dedicated to them. Sure, they won't screw people over completely like Ninty did (I *bleep*ing hope they don't anyway) but if a Shark smells blood it goes in for the kill. Msoft and Sony are businesses first, proof in the fact they're even making these peripherals at all.
