If they don't "foreclose" it, they really need to work on its marketing.
Closing Home would ruin mah fun.
HOME is like one big community, bringing all the PS3 owners together to chat or meet up to play games or discuss things. Right now HOME has a lot of good things, but there are tons of improvements to be made, such as delivering what they promised at the start and improve the communication aspect to make it so much better.
Maybe with the PS4 it'll work out better, since it should (hopefully) be available out of the box, or at least really soon after launch.
When I used Home, it was mostly just to chat with some buddies. Faster than PSN messaging service anyhow, though those darn censors were annoying ~_~
