Microsoft has shocked the industry becoming this successful and delivering the goods on their console. Now let's see the success shine through in the portable world and when this happen along side Xboxlive this will be crowded market once again with market share being taken away mostly from the PSP.

Microsoft releasing a handheld in a few ways can hurt Sony. The #1 reason will be with XboxLive, that service streaming on a powerful portable machine will do wonders for the gaming community but also the japanese market will show more support to Xbox.

The title suggests that Microsoft is planning a portable console, which while it is a possibility, does not mean there will neccessarily be one. Nothing is confirmed as of yet (that I know off anyways)

Actually yes there is. There was an interview with a Microsoft executive and when asked about a portable xbox he said.

"Its not a matter of if its a matter of when"

He then said they still need to decide on how there going to do it. Either through a new console and OS and stuff. Or through expanding their Windows Mobile sector.
Ill try and dig it up somewhere.

Only way i can see Microsoft entering the portable-console market at the moment is probably making one out of the Zune and competing with the iPod Touch/iPhone. Which is much more of a possibility than a new portable console unit.

I don't know if Microsoft really cares about the portable console market. As you can see, much of the portable Microsoft brand games are practically supporting the DS.

Comn really msoft??? Hows your ZUNE working out for you guys??? And now you want to go handheld?? This isn't msoft's way at targeting sony there going after apple if anything. So is sony at that, and im sure we'll see nintendo heading in that direction to.

I didn't want to read the source. First, MS confirmed they're working on a handheld? Not that I've heard (and comments seem to show the article provides no proof, only a "What if" situation). And honestly I agree with Dragonite, I can't see MS entering the portable console market to compete with the PSP. I don't know, it seems a bit too far off. I see it more in competition with the iphone/ipod.

Trying to imagine what an MS handheld gaming system would look like . . . oddly all I keep thinking is a gameboy in shape and style!

I think Microsoft should focus on the 360, and future Xboxes, honestly.
