Games that made the NES a cult classic

Racketboy.com takes a look back into the 8-bit days when things were just simple (not Pong simple, mind you). I agree with every single game mentioned except R.C. Pro-Am. I think Metal Gear could of taken the place instead. The listed games are as follow:

  • Super Mario Bros. Series
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Metroid
  • Duck Hunt
  • Excitebike
  • Contra
  • Mike Tyson's Punch-Out
  • Castlevania Trilogy
  • Kirby's Adventure
  • Final Fantasy
  • Kid Icarus
  • Mega Man Series
  • R.C. Pro-Am
  • Tecmo Bowl
  • Ninja Gaiden

They also have a very good list of Honorable Mentions. I can only think of a couple more games off the top of my head that should be under the Honorable Mention list: Rescue Rangers, Yonoid, and A Boy And His Blob.
  • The Nintendo Entertainment System is legendary in the video game world. Nintendo virtually came out of nowhere to invade the world with a reborn love for home-based video games. To fuel the revolution, Nintendo and a skilled group of third parties loaded the NES library with a wealth of high quality 8-bit games that would not only ingrain themselves in the minds of youngsters, but set standards for video game generations to come.

With so many nostalgic favorites, it was difficult to have a comprehensive list without rambling on forever. I did my best to narrow the list down to what I thought were the games that defined what made the NES great and hold the most memories for retrospective gamers everywhere. If I missed mentioning your personal favorite, I apologize, but I would love to hear your story.

Couldn't agree more with that list. Duck Hunt/Super Mario Bros. was a damn good deal, and though we didn't get FF for the NES, it's success from the system kept it going and expanding throughout the world.

Yes, those are all ones that I would've chosen, with the exception of a couple extras. Great games, they were.

Duck Hunt is a classic. I can't wait for it to come out on the VC as I will be buying it.

Great games list there which I totally agree with. Some of them games I played for hours on end as a little kid, and some I still play on the VC.

Duck Hunt and Super mario bros. is the most legendary game that has been produced in the last 50 years, well, to me it is since it had 2 awesome games in 1.
