A feature released in the Playstation 3 Update Version 2.70, it seems to be a feature that is quite underused, and so here's a post to raise awareness of the feature and it's advantages over sending messages normally (via Create Message).

When someone sends a message, the person that is receiving it will be notified that he's just got a message, with the subject of the message appearing at the top right hand corner. This means that they have 'essentially' instantly read the message. A great way to do it... but there are problems, and the biggest being the word limit for the subject, which is far too small to be able to say anything major... and if you still want to say something major, you'll have to send multiple messages, and believe me, a lot of people do just that.

Yes, the word limit is the worst thing about it. Especially if you didn't update to the latest firmware (the latest firmware increased it from I think 30-something, to 60 or 80-something). This needs to be fixed soon to make the chatrooms worth it

this would be nice to have in 360 chat, in your party you could have voice chat and text too, so you wouldnt have to have a mic to chat.

I was just thinking about that today. That would be worth the $20 I have to pay for a keyboard.

They do have text chatting on the 360. You have to do so via MSN messenger, but you can do it 360-360 as long as both gamertags are signed onto MSN and they have each other added on MSN. Same thing.

I dunno I hate text chatting. It's distracting and inefficient way to communicate especially in fast-paced teamwork based games.

but its not integrated into the regular chat\party window, so maybe you like typing and your friend likes chatting with a mic.
