Nothing But Shooters briefly discusses the pro's and con's of a Call of Duty game based on the Civil War. Would this be a good direction for the series in the not-so-distant future, or would it be going too far backwards in history?

In regards to subsequent titles after MW2, it appears that Treyarch’s next stab at the franchise may center on the Vietnam War with possible espionage missions based on The Cold War era, and I have previously suggested that Future Warfare would be received well, should it be the decided direction when the series inevitably shifts gears again.

But what about the Civil War? Would this be a viable course for the franchise at some point in the future?

It would be a tard game. Especially considering it taking like a whole minute to reload guns of that time.

    1 minute reload times

    Oh, god...

I think I'd actually prefer a futuristic Call of Duty game over a Civil War Call of Duty. However, I think either one would be quite lame...

I could just imagine sleight of hand making the reload times faster and making the animation look like a guy's jacking off his rifle.

I always thought it would be interesting to have an FPS about the Civil War, or Revolutionary War even, as a change of pace from all the WWII exposure. But as stated previously, it wouldn't really be a fun game because of the terrible weapons they had back then. A minute to reload after each shot and awful accuracy? No thanks, let's let those wars stay in the text books.

I think I just threw up a little at the idea of that. There's so much ground to actually cover there literally it would be insane not to mention how little emphasis there would be on shooting given reload times and bad sights on the guns. Treyarch would have to give up making anything in the COD universe if they went that route.

What about Battlefield 1812? All this talk of Call of Duty, give Battlefield some historical love too.

Honestly though, Treyarch needs to leave the past alone. How many more WWII games could they make? At least move on to Korea or Vietnam.

I'd love a game set in World War I. IMO, there's not enough on those. If it has to be historical (and it's Treyarch, so it has to be historical) make it WWI. Please.

    OH.

    OH.

    GO FIGURE.

the guys over at call of duty finally have a cool new idea for the franchise, and you assholes don't like it. why am i not surprised.

i was just thinking a few days ago, after playing age of chivalry, how neat it would be to have a civil war era shooting game. i don't care how long i have to wait between shots at confederate jackasses, it would still be awesome.

I wouldn't mind a Civil War one. But I want the COD franchise to go to Vietnam.

why do you want CoD Korea/Vietnam? Both were failures on everyone's part (mostly America's)
I was thinking that CoD US Civil War would be cool...but the reload times and the guns are garbage...and then there are the white supremecists who want to fight for the Confederacy and preserve slavery >.<
But then again World War I could be another option...maybe

Oooh, goody. Trench fighting. Fun for all. Not.

Vietnam is a great place for Call of Duty. It can be a much darker gamer.

    Civil War? HECK YES!

We really don't get any kind of FPS games based on the Civil War, let's not forget that for youngsters there's something to learn in between the blood spatter and swearing.

    Kidding, just kidding!

There's a reason World War 2 is about the earliest war that is feasible to recreate into a video game.

WWI would theoretically work but I don't know if there were that many serious gunfights during world war 1. And much of those gunfights consisted of long stalemates and killing was mostly by mines, turrets and barrages. It could work but in order for it to be fun as a video game, they'd have to kinda let go of it being at all that historically accurate.

Same with a Civil War game. Could work but just drop some WWII weapons in the hands of Union and Confederate soldiers. Would that work you think?
