Spawn Kill's CuatroChihuahuas reflects on the phenomenon of color options in video game systems. Does choice (or lack there of) in color influence customers' purchases?

If you already own a Wii, and tomorrow you could get a new one in any shade of the rainbow, would you be willing to drop another $250 for it? Obviously, some people will. If you don’t have a DS, but they came out with one in your most favorite color, would you then buy one?

I never find colors important but they do aid in sales mainly because it looks new and shiny and all that crap.

Colors do affect sales (though not by much) and who wouldn't want a black wii? Or a white PS3? Or a.....damn, xbox isn't made out of the same material as PS3 or Wii so it isn't shiny or glossy =(

Being obvious here colors are mainly targeted for the casual gamer. (which is why Nintendo probably played there color card so late)

Of course colours matter, they are single most important thing when it comes to buying consoles.

Another "Do colors matter on consoles" article . . . There was one for the psp not too long ago (actually linked in the "related articles" links). What I commented there, is how I'd comment here too.

Yes. It matters. It's called aesthetic preference.

I couldn't care less about the colour of my console, and would never spend money on the same console just for it's colour...unless my current one stopped working.

Well, people have their preferences. The little details like colour will have an effect on people, it's natural.
