In response to the recent banning of Risen in Australia, OXCGN revives the long debate that an R18+ rating is needed in Australia, since it is the only country that doesn't have one for games...

Here we go again.

Risen, due for release in October for PC and 360, is the latest game banned in Australia, given the dreaded “refused classification” tag by the Aussie Classification Board.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. This is just bullshit. As mentioned in there, film and TV and everything else has this rating, not to mention a lot of other places around the world do too. Denying games the rating due to some old stupid stereotype is well... stupid! I seriously think that this needs to be an all or nothing type subject. Either ban everything on every medium that is classed 18+ or let everyone have the rating. Double standards aren't acceptable.

Although, with Rudd's plan to censor Australian internet like with China, somehow I think if it came down to it, the former rather than the latter would happen.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Stupid Australian people treat video games on a different level as film and television. The Australian public can not understand that not all video games are for children, and until there is a change in that culture, we're not ready for an R18+ rating.

Although I agree that Rudd's plans for Internet censorship is ridiculous.

It's not the public, it's the government.

I see. Well, it's some of the public and most of the government. I'm basing this on having talked to many intelligent Australians like yourself.
