OXCGN's new US correspondent enters with a bang, taking on those who believe Activision's price hike is not warranted or justified. He has some very good arguments for and against, so do take a look.

What’s more ridiculous? Gamers talking about a boycott of Activision over prices, or a uniform cost for games regardless of quality? I say the situations are equally ridiculous.

Activision recently announced the price of Modern Warfare 2 in Great Britain will be 55 British Pounds ($90 US/ $109 AUD), a 5 Pound increase ($8.50 US/ $10 AUD) over typical retail price there.

Will You Be Going To War Against Activision?

Analyst Michael Pachter told Eurogamer the price increase is a test by Activision to see if it can get away with charging more for its premium products:

I kind of agree (to a point, if there is a shitload of content I'm willing to pay a little bit more), but history has told us that Activision suck at delivering on what they promise (except for high prices )

Thats the thing, I dont think we will be getting what we pay for. IW is already planning two DLC packs, and most of them will probably be extra maps. So those should come with the disc if they cost $100

I just know that in 2 years, the $60 price tag will be a long lost memory.

We won't be getting our money's worth and that is the thing. Yes people enjoy playing this game to death online but the main bulk of development costs goes into single player, which I believe will be barely longer than the original campaign we will not be getting our money's worth.

I'd be less angry if Activision actually noticed there was other countries apart from the US.

I see their business plan as '*bleep* over the UK, Australia and Everyone Else - Give the US rewards and gifts.'

I wouldn't buy it. The price point average for games isn't to be abused by a single company, rather, asshole CEO who's deep into profiteering. He needs to be removed.

It would have made more sense if they raised the price in the US instead. I'm surprised at how high the price of the game was in the UK before they even raised it.

Ha, *bleep* the price. I won't buy it for that much, now I don't want to buy MW2. However with the popularity MW2 is getting, people don't care about price and Activsion knows this as stated in the article. They know people will jizz themselves right when the clock strikes MIDNIGHT and all will be waiting in line at Gamestop.
