Electronic Theatre reports on a poll held by Blend Games, in association with Electronic Theatre, as to which Current-Generation exclusive is currently more anticipated, Halo 3: ODST or M.A.G.

Blend Games has now revealed that several thousand votes had been cast, and in a shocking revelation declared M.A.G. the undeniable champion. With nearly three quarters of all votes cast going in it’s favour, Zipper Interactive’s M.A.G. has obviously reached a boiling-point of anticipation.

Right...comparing an overpriced expansion pack with the massively multiplayer online fps? Of course the poll will reflect MAG..

Right...and if you think ODST is an overpriced expansion pack then your head must be too far up your arse.

I myself am looking forward to MAG, but also don't hold high hopes for it. Were as with ODST i know how it's going to play and what to expect.

Some new maps and an extra campaign? Yes, not an overpriced expansion pack indeed...

Yes an entirely new single player experience with a more open world style gameplay and a new fighting style different from Master Chiefs, a new storyline, several new modes, several new maps based on the story Yes it is an overpriced expansion pack indeed.

Well, atleast this is a "Which game do you anticipate more" poll, rather than that wack "Which game will be better" poll conducted a few weeks back.

I actually thought Halo would win. The Halo name is up there with Star Wars in terms of popularity, you know

I say Battlefield Bad Company 2 would be the better comparison as to the fights... but this just can't be done right if they aren't attacking console exclusives I suppose.

So it's MAG vs Halo(Because every Sony exclusive shooter ever made has to challenge it, apparently)... and BFBC2 vs Modern Warfare 2.

I would be really excited for MAG if it wasnt for the fact that the developers of MAG hadn't made SOCOM. Im sorry but SOCOM fans pull your heads out your asses the game was way behind the times even when the first one dropped. The only reason it was And all the ones since have been the same thing.
MAG could be good, hell MAG might be the best game of '09. I dont know but I'm going to keep my expectations very low untill the game releases.

both of these games look lame and not worthy of my money. however, the release of ODST will undoubtedly slim out SOME of the morons from halo 3 who will flock to the newest version, so i won't have to hear as many idiots shouting through my tv as my brother plays halo.

    i vote halo

Problem: It's an expansion and plays on the same servers, it just has new maps that will be used more than anything else for about a week before being put on the special playtypes built just for them.

    Let's see here

A brand new IP that features a staggering online play of up to 256 players, something untested and totally new, versus a thinly placed spin-off with nothing more than a few extra maps and (I pray) a protaganist that may actually have dialouge.

    I vote MAG.

Halo 3 just isn't bringing anything new to the table. Nothing genre-busting, nothing groundbreaking. There's only one other game that has 256 players online at once, and that was for PC. We all know PC's power easily outweights consoles, so this game (MAG) will truly revolutionize the console gaming library, whether it be as a huge success or a failed attempt remains yet to be seen.

    Oh yay, more fanboy bait.

Wouldn't it be fair to say both games are a major deal? Face it, this isn't a debate over which game people prefer -- it really about consoles. Neither side wants to admit the other console has a game they like / want to play.

Fanboy bait? Dude, wtf. Both games are NOT a major deal to the owner of the other respective console. The fact is, M.A.G. could revolutionize the online multiplayer genre. Halo 3 ODST can't do that. I mean, new games modes are cool, but comparing what Halo ODST is going to do multi-player wise to what M.A.G. could possibly achieve is nothing short of absolutely retarded.

I love how your first sentence says it's not a big deal and then you go off with a whole paragraph about why it's a big deal to you.

        *thumbs up*

I'm not a big fan of shooters aside from Battlefield mostly because of the destruction engine. I like seeing things go boom and actually having a visible effect unlike the "OHMYGOD SOOOO REALISTIC!!!1" CoD games where artillery fire can't put a dent in tin, but I digress and that's beside the point right now.

        Impact of these two games:

Halo - As a series it's already made it's big impact and effectively defined the online shooter experience for the consoles, with numerous copy-cats and contenders basing themselves off of it's core design. ODST can't really add much to it aside from the main campaign I think.

MAG - Too early to tell, but it's using old techniques to try to make a very big game. That's kind of it really, splitting sides into small squads to keep latency down is nothing new. Made by the SOCOM guys who have thus far shown no capability in doing anything new for about a decade, so I remain cautiously optimistic.

Even though I'm not a fan of Sony, I see how the game has the possibility of changing things with the ability of mass quantity in game play on the consoles.

I do not mean in any way to seem instigatory, but I would like someone to explain to me in detail what exactly Halo did to revolutionize the FPS genre. And I mean exactly what I asked; just an explanation for clarification on my part.

From what I hear (and in my opinion), Red, it's the multiplayer aspect that really set a standard -- both online and co-op. It really set a higher bar for how we looked at co-op in shooters, and a lot of gamers were literally spoiled by the online matchmaking system. I mean, I hear a lot of complaints over those features in other games now that I personally don't have a problem with; but I think Bungie did a great job in that respect, and gamers remember that.

Not to mention it pretty much carried the original Xbox on its shoulders. Really a step forward for console shooters in general, and the first one to enjoy so much attention.

It's a well-made trilogy all around, and just plain fun. I like that they've sort of opened up the Halo universe to a more updated style of play in ODST.

Pretty much, Halo 2 was the best console online FPS last gen.

        And that's how you spell I R O N Y.

Anyways, props to Electronic Theatre for creating a fanboy feeding frenzy. The community needs a good jab now and then.

Just going to copy paste what I said in the MAG Release Date article:
Unfortunatly, I'm not that excited. The concept is great, but it looks like everything we've seen before in war games like Operation Flashpoint and COD, and with 256 people playing (and at least 20/30 tards per game), you're going to get all walks of life ruining your gaming experience.

    InnerDemon Aug 17, 09
I'm not taking either side here and before this topic I had never heard of MAG. But just off the comments I have read here, it is a game that has a capability of holding 256 players at once.

If I am correct on that, I would be more worried about maintaining a stable connection in something that big. Unless those are some extremely dedicated servers, it seems that one bad connection could make the whole game wack.

This isn't a question of console allegiance for me since I own both a PS3 and 360. I'd say MAG interests me a lot more than ODST, simply because it is trying something different.

Really not that surprising Halo didn't win, it just looks like a cheap rip off which everyone will still buy. Very Nintindy-esque.

      Slumpy monkey Aug 22, 09
How can it rip of itself?
      • 0
        Existence Aug 22, 09
I assume he meant "rip off" not as copying Halo's gameplay, but as something which is basically a waste of money.

But then he used "cheap" before that, so I dunno.

Isn't a bit early to say which one won?

If you go by sales estimates alone, I'd have to say ODST would win hands down judging on Halo 3 selling some million copies in its first week.

    Slumpy monkey Aug 22, 09
It made 170 million in the first day.
