20 hours 32 mins ago
Resident Evil 5 recieved mixed reviews and left many gamers feeling disappointed at the direction the series has headed in. And yet it was very successful, becoming the best-selling Resident Evil game within the span of a few weeks. But was marketing the key to Resident Evil 5's success? Go to the source to find out why Electronic Entertainment Design and Research thinks so...
Electronic Entertainment Design and Research, an interactive entertainment research firm, says that the success of Capcom’s Resident Evil 5 can be attributed to the marketing strategies behind its release in March.
EEDAR’s most recent report showed that the survival-horror shooter was one of the few new titles to break into the top 10 selling games this year through June, selling nearly two million copies in the U.S. and five million worldwide.
Besides Resident Evil 5 being a high-quality, widely acclaimed title (it received a Metacritic score of 85 for the Xbox 360 version), EEDAR executive chairman Greg Short told IndustryGamers.com that a good-sized marketing budget and a strong marketing team helped the title greatly.

TBH it was a below average game that just rode the hype train all the way. Much like the "Snakes on a Plane" movie.
Also whats with the "fear" we can't forget- tagline? Emphasis on FEAR. Capcom can't honestly still think this game is horror?
Which kinda sucks because, with the horror-themes trailers that were released early on and the "fear you can't forget" tagline, I imagine alot of gamers would have bought it thinking it would be a horror.
i had a great time with it. you wouldnt think it would have good replay value, but due to going through different difficulties with all the kick ass weapons you unlocked before, it sorta does give it replay. im going through Veteran with infinite RPG, M29, Jail Breaker and Sig 556 (plus the unique weapons which i dont use) and still having fun, and i plan to play through Pro with a friend after that.
