TheGamerAccess.com talks about Microsoft and why they have not redesigned the Xbox 360 to fix the notorious issues such as the disk scratching problem, RROD (red rings of death) and now the E74 error.

I have been pondering this for several days now as the hype surrounding Sony and GamesCom is still red hot. Sony is releasing a slim PS3 on September 1, 2009 with newer hardware, a redesign and most of the same options (no more Linux installation and still no backwards compatibility). This is by no means a comparison, but rather a question on why Microsoft hasn't redesigned the 360. Since the 360 launched it has had problems notoriously, first the disk scratching problem, then the RROD (red rings of death) and now the E74 error. These problems were supposed to be fixed with the new chipsets that were supposedly redesigned to eliminate heat and improve performance. All three problems have persisted and Microsoft has done little else to quell these problems.

Falcon chip ? I'm pretty sure that lowered the fail rate considerably.

Yeah. I don't think the source really did any research at all.

Plus, why the hell would Microsoft waste time with a 360 Slim? Slims are the most pointless thing ever. :/

When I think Slim I think of something small (of course) but also something that can break easily.

Well, if it had lowered the failure rate considerably, we wouldn't have reports showing factual evidence that the failure rate is between 30 and 50 percent.

But, back to the topic at hand. Maybe a 360 'slim' isn't the idea here, more of just a reconfigured 360. One with better hardware, and not such a high failure rate. They wouldn't necessarily have to make it any smaller, just a sort of re-launch. I think the fact that Sony, who started out with a what, 2% failure rate, now re-released their slim model with better hardware, pretty much it saying that they fix their problems a year sooner than the 360.

Well you see, the 30% failure rate was of the launch consoles. Pre falcon chip.

And that 50% rate was from a survey of 5000 gamers. In that survey sony also got
      a %12 failure rate.

MS could release a slim if they wanted, they have the smaller chips but they just use them in the normal size ones already.

The NEW PS3 "SLIM" design is a tactical decision.
In the average consumers 's mind , the "Slim" is a NEW playstation ... it's the KEY to "reconciliation" with the brand.

Agreed, MS should make a similar move around Natal's release. It'd help a lot to penetrate the Japanese market.

Because heaven knows the Japanese entertainment market is all for penetration...

I think MS could learn from Sony, and Sony could learn from MS. As well as Nintendo learning from both and both learning from Nintendo.

When that happens . . . oh be prepared for the ULTIMATE Gaming System!
