The Gran Turismo franchise is one of Sony's oldest and most beloved franchise. It's a franchise that has gotten better, and sold more copies with each installment. Gran Turismo 5 looks like it will be another step ahead for the franchise.

The Gran Turismo series is one of the oldest and most-successful series in the videogame industry. Not only did it invent the racing simulation genre, but it has been there for every major step in technology. The PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2 and now the PlayStation 3 have all been home to this amazing series developed by Polyphony Digital, and watching the evolution of such a remarkable creation has been a car enthusiast’s dream.

The evolution has been very slow. Though I would disagree with anyone that the amount of man hours needed to make Gran Turismo 5 look as good as it does are worth it. I mean Turn 10 have made 3 Forza games in the same timeframe each with more and better features than Gran Turismo on the whole. People may argue Forza is more arcadey but the added realism of GT is not worth 5 years of extra dev time.

Well if you look at PDs games technically speaking, they push their games to the limit. Plus they've had to adjust to the new hardware each generation, whereas Turn 10 have only had to work on a single console for all 3 games. I mean, in GT5, not only do they include road track racing, they also have NASCAR and dirt-track WRC racing, which all of the Forzas lacked. Keep in mind the detail they put into environments and cars is a lot higher than Turn 10's effort.

All in all, to say that what Gran Turismo does isn't impressive is a little close-minded. Just because they've run into competition doesn't negate the fact that they have the largest and most successful driving simulator franchise in gaming history.

I never actually said that Gran Turismo 5 wasn't impressive. What I did say was that when a game takes this long to make it better be perfection. This game is far from perfection just like Gran Turismo 4 had flaws and Gran Turismo 3 had flaws. Polyphony Digital spend so long on the game and it doesn't pay off.

Though I am not a huge fan of Gran Turismo I enjoy it and play it, but I am not a super fan. I mean the car damage in this game had this not been called Gran Turismo everyone would have given up on this game. The number of delays is criminal and the dev time is absurd. I mean brand loyalty in this game is massive and that is the only reason many people are singing this games praises still. To me I'm a gamer I'll buy Gran Turismo 5, i'll buy Forza 3, i'll buy Supercar Challenge and everything else as overall I am fan of cars not the game they come in.

Its not so much the graphics and the features, as it is the core driving gameplay. I spent several months in GT4, just tweaking cars so that I could shave a few seconds of my lap time. You can't just hop in and get the "best" car and win every race. Some cars are good for some tracks, and others good for other tracks, just like in real life.

and i don't understand why they put vehicle damage in the game, it makes no sense. If your good at GT, you will never hit a wall or car, ever. If you want vehicle damage, go play burnout (this comment wasn't aimed at you, im just saying)
