It seems the price war is now on between the Xbox 360 Elite and the new look PS3 Slim. How this will affect sales and each systems is yet unknown but there are some interesting pros and cons to both.

With the Xbox 360 & PS3 now marked at roughly the same price, the holiday season of 2009 will have some interesting sales statistics by the end of the year. With blockbuster titles such as Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Halo: ODST & Assassin's Creed 2, there's one major winner in this 'console war': the consumers.

I don't think it will, theres a line in that article that sums it all up well to me and that is

" there’s one major winner in this ‘console war’: the consumers. "

If both Microsoft and Sony want ot battle it out in terms of the cheapest console, we are the winners lol.

I think the PS3 Slim will still do better. Its cost has dropped twice as much as the 360's right?

Though as IntoxicA said, ultimately we reap the benefits.

Gah i really don't know, i don't care that the slims price has dropped, i'm still buying a PS3 Fat because the slim is goddamn ugly.

But because the elites down in price, many people will see this as a good time to upgrade their pro or arcade console and the harddrive that they have, so this could be a smart move on MS's part.

The difference is Sony hasn't just dropped the price. In the eyes of would be consumers they have released a brand new Playstation 3. There is always a need for people to get something new and this will really work in the favour of Sony. Yes Microsoft has lowered the price but price cuts haven't really helped them in the past. They still barely have a foothold or much of a lead over the PS3 which was up until recently alway about $100 more expensive than it. This price cut for the 360 will do very little it will just put their best system the Elite up against a more feature packed and better system for the same cost. People don't just want a console they want a blu-ray for their TV when you can get that for $299. Why would you want a system that doesn't have in built Wi-Fi and is still using old school DVD... Blu-Ray still justifies it's price with standalone players being around the same cost as a PS3, the 360 cannot justify being the same price.

Use the enter button now and then man, freakin' text block there.

The Elite models come with some nice additions as well, least of which being a 120gb HDD.

PS3 has a severely crippled library without the backwards compatibility, they like claiming that the PS2 is still going strong and that devs still make games on it yet don't take advantage of that for the PS3, which is horrible business sense now that they've had the price drop.

As you pointed out, one of the things it's being sold for is as a blu-ray player. Sony themselves have once said they intended the PS3 to be more for pushing the format rather than gaming and they've actually done quite a bit to keep gamers from wanting to buy it.

Severely crippled library? Have you've been living in a cave the past year or have you've been too busy beating off to your 360 to notice what other platforms have to offer. 360's got a great library not including xbox games and the ps3s got a great library not including ps2 games. Please keep such obnoxious comments to yourself.

I play my PSP more often than my 360 because I'm quite addicted to Monster Hunter, but sure, why not. I totally get off playing my 360 and never never once looked into the PS3's game library or that of any console. Good call on that one man, nailed it right there.

Because the strength of a console's gaming collection absolutely has nothing to do with opinion whatsoever. I admit that it has good games, actually I should say exclusives since they're the bigger selling point, but none that I am personally interested in. Better?

Sure, I could have worded that better, but Sony still used their PS2 library as a selling point for the PS3 and then just took it away.

The phrase 'price drop' is redundant to me ever since I heard the PS3's alleged $100 price drop was only £30 in the UK and was more everywhere else.

People generally are more interested in having the "latest and greatest" as opposed to the cheapest. Especially considering that the PS3 is a the technologically superior console, I don't think it will be affected by the Xbox 360's price drop.

Forget the slim. I want October to arrive so I can be playing Demon's Souls. And the Fallout 3 DLC. And maybe WKC will drop in the next year.

Maybe I am asking for too much....back to playing ToV on my 360.
