On the news that Twitter and Facebook are only going to be available to Gold Members on Xbox Live, KatanOmega of gorillajumpers.com is mad as hell, and wonders if supporting Microsoft is the right thing to do anymore.

How is that not charging for these services, the printing was 100% accurate. A trial just means that your not going to charge for them immediately, but once the trial is over it's time to cough up some duckets. Let's forget the fact that we shouldn't even be paying for an online service at this point, but to charge for features that are completely free and a rather powerful community building tools is a real slap in the face.

I dont understand why MS would just give a trial to their silver members, its just twitter and facebook.

I wouldn't see either as big selling points for Gold, so I don't get why it's not on Silver.

But MS is always looking for selling points on Gold, so I guess it makes sense.

I can't see me using either that much though. Twitter's gonna get flooded with "OMG, I beat/killed _________" now, assuming you can run it through the mini-dash. I haven't checked it out really.

It's just good to actually have some prospects of being a gold member other than multiplayer and party chat lol.

Well they also get Netflix, early/exclusive downloads, the community games though 1 vs 100 is the only one out right now.

I know, I've said it a million times before: Paying for XBOX Live in general is silly. Not saying it's a bad service, just that there aren't any other companies out there that are charging their customers to play... other than MMOs of course.

Microsoft hosts / maintains their own servers, while for the PS3, the game company does -- at least, that was my understanding.

I'm fairly certain that Microsoft does not have dedicated servers for Xbox Live; it's all in a certain p2p format.

A quick google search of "Xbox Live dedicated server" seems to confirm this, but to be honest I'm not 100% of how they do it.

I'm suprised this guy has drawn the line here. Microsoft are always looking for new ways to make money off Live.

Well, if you care that much, go on your computer.

I don't see the point but I also don't care. pretty much anyone who actually cares enough to want to go on the microsoft facebook/twitter will probably be a gold member anyway. I'm more than happy to pay £35 a year for xbox live it's well worth it. from my personal experience xbox live has always seemed to be better than PSN, when I played GTA on my friends playstation 3 I seemed to have trouble finding enough players but the same trouble hardly ever occurs on xboxlive for me.

Perhaps because more people bought GTA IV for the Xbox 360 and out of all the people that thought the game was shit, those with the 360 are still playing because of the content. It has nothing to do with the service.
