Last week, one of GameObserver's editors ranted on Achievement Points, which got quite a bit of negative feedback. This week, the article's author retaliates by explaining what "really" is killing the industry (because it appears claiming Achievement Points are the death of gaming was a sarcastic liberty taken by the editor's).
I’ve gotten feedback from a couple of people claiming that, at best, that I was over-exaggerating the murderous nature of the Achievement Point system, and at worst, that I’m a disgruntled Playstation 3 fanatic. I guess the issue wasn’t helped by the gracious staff at GameObserver. God bless them for their hard work, but they made the same human error several other readers of the article made when they concocted the headline “Who would have thought that something as simple as Achievement Points would spell the end of gaming as we know it? [Note from the editor: It was sarcasm] I didn’t.

Or rather, the fake gamers. The rabid fanboys and the rabid "hardcore" gamers who feel that if anyone is not like them or similar enough to them or on their side of the cause, then they "phail" (or however of the hundreds of spellings that word has) or are not "real gamers."
Now the real gamers will keep gaming alive. You know, the ones who don't care which console it's on as long as it's a good game . . . and don't care if you like to play on certain consoles, or like to play "casual" games or not because they'll play the game with you . . . Yeah. Those people. True gamers. The fakes, or wannabe's who are more into the console war than the actual games, or more into the casual/hardcore debate than the games, they are what may be the death of video games. Or at least they come closest.
