RatedG4Gamer fan Richard, submitted an article to us regarding the state of exclusive game content across all platforms. Will this ever change? We don't think so but here is his thoughts.

This will be a debateable article for many of you, and some will simply say it is a cry piece about not having the right console, or a PC for that matter. However, to the open minded, this is a true reflection on how we have all been affected, penalised, punished or, dare I say it, betrayed by the games we love and hold dear to our hearts for simply not having the right gaming platform.

The people without the exclusive content lose. The ones who get it win. Pretty simple equation if you ask me.

It's all about competition, companies competing to cash in on the customer's loyalty. It's one of the many things that I feel is really hurting this generation of gaming especially. Back in the Sega vs Nintendo games; you pretty much got what you expect, most games were either on one console or another. The few multi-platform games that were out had little differences between them, like more blood on Mortal Kombat or perhaps the graphics being a bit more polished.

These days it's different. The majority of games released are multi-platform, and for the consoles to set themselves apart from the rest they feel they need to purchase the rights to exclusive or timed content. This may be all well and good if you are on the "winning" side of the argument, but for a moment think about the ones who do not have the money to purchase every console and got the band end of the stick. If you only one of the three consoles, chances are that will be you in the future.

I'm not saying companies need to dumb down a game to have it work equally on every system; I'm only suggesting this simple concept: Please your fans - do not alienate them.

And another thing; If the content is ready to go before the game goes gold, add it on - don't wait to charge extra later on - Capcom is champion of this.

Actually this a a great thing in my opinion. For years me and my friends have been "arguing" about who has the best games. Last generation it was me going "oh shnap I got Metal Gear Solid" and him with "I got halo bitch". The way people act these days blaming video games for everything wrong with them exclusive games gives them a reason to be social.
Honestly I feel that if exclusive content/games didnt exist some gamers would never be social out side the reaches of xbox live and whatever playstations is called. (sorry guys I dont know, I only play it at friends)

And thus flamewars and the even more infamous, fanboys are born from this.

No. Exclusive content does not make anyone more social, it just makes some people pissed off, and others into mindless fanboys.

I don't like exclusive content, I wish Halo was on PS3 and Uncharted on 360, but sadly this will never happen because it is to strike competition.

if you're paying to get extra stuff in a game you already bought, you lose.

He's saying it's kind of a dick move to make us pay more on top of the core game for content that should've had no problem fitting onto the game disc in the first place. It's the pre-release DLC I think that is the problem: developers who plan on keeping things out of the game so they can make you pay even more later on for something that could've been in the game to begin with.

Other DLCs that were unforeseen before release are no problem: they're like ideas that the developers didn't have before release and want to add it to the game.

And that's the kind of DLC I'm talking about: crap that's all ready to be launched with the game but is held back so we gamers can have our dollar-udders milked s'more.
