Why the PS3 Slim matters to current PS3 owners

As days pass and more news of the PS3 Slim assault our RSS feeds and televisions, Mike Got Game realizes that the PS3 Slim’s onslaught should matter to existing PS3 owners. Here’s how it could potentially affect us.

I’ve been a PlayStation 3 owner for almost two years now. I’m pleased with my PS3’s performance. Despite its frequent use, my console has never failed me so far. When official word of the cheaper PS3 Slim came out, I didn’t leap for joy or congratulate Sony. After all, they don’t pay for my salary or put food on my table.

    However, luckily a headset is not standard with any real PS3 packages, meaning no matter what it will always be quieter on PSN, which I am frankly grateful for.

    Really I don't run into many of those cheaters or griefers or irritating people on the PS3. I run into them on other places and systems, but not too much on the PS3, which I'm glad for.

    One thing I'm still not getting though, is that the Slim is NOT a cheaper PS3 . . . so the only thing that makes it sell more is its "new" and "different" feel to it than the original. I should actually not call it the Original though because the original has long been dead (But thank God I do have an original!)

      You don't run into them now because there aren't as many people on PSN compared to XBL. Once the PS3 numbers swell, that might change.

        Whaa? Mike, the pros far outweigh the cons. More people on the PSN is a GOOD thing. Yeah there MIGHT be the increase of immature people who ruin it. But that's not a problem with having more people on the PSN, it's a problem with society. And there's not much that can be done about it, except to go against the flow and hopefully attempt to change the way the majority is.

    In any congregation of more than 10 people I'd bet money that at least one of them is a complete twat. Counting however many people are on PSN at least an eighth of them grief, cheat or rape peoples ears with talking bullshit. I run into dickheads all the time when I actually go online.

    I can't tell if this is an attempt at humour that's too deadpan for its own good or if you seriously believe that higher sales is actually a bad thing.
