OXCGN Omaha writer Aaron Klien takes a long hard look at the state of affairs that is The Kurt Cobain Saga. Takes a solid look at how Harmonix have done the right thing with The Beatles, and how he believes Activision have simply capitalized on a past singing legend.

Slip over and check it out, some decent vids to check out as well.

There is a big hub bub on the net right now over the use of Kurt Cobain’s likeness as an unlockable character in Guitar Hero 5. This means Cobain can be the front man of your band while you perform the hits of Flava Flav and Bon Jovi.

While that may not initially seem like a big deal- gamers love unlockable characters- anyone familiar with Cobain’s work will get a creepy vibe upon watching this video of Cobain’s doppleganger in action.

I got half way through and became bored.

Activision don't care. They see everything as cash pinatas and after looking at Cobain and Guitar Hero they got the permission and beat the two together with a massive stick that had 'We don't give a *bleep*' printed on its side.

Blame the retards who allowed this to happen but don't bother lashing out at Activision because as long as there are a lot of people who want things this way, which there are, they won't give a damn. Yeah, it's messed up to use him like this but that's life; shit happens.

Bottom line, Courtney should have done more to protect Cobain's image. She obviously wasn't involved in the creative process after signing the rights away.

Lol the surviving members of Nirvana didn't want Kurt in it at all yet crack addict Courtney signed it then threatened to sue Activision a few weeks later.

Personally I don't see what the big deal is. Everyone does realize it's just an animation.....right?? As long as the right people got paid, who really gives two shits what songs He could be performing in.

I foresee a shit ton of youtube videos on this now though. People will do just about anything to get under Courtney Love's skin LMAO

Well it's mostly because he killed himself so as not to become some cliche in the music industry yet now they're turning him into that; pretty much pissing on his legacy.

Don't get me wrong though, people going off on one about the subject really do need to light up a fatty and just chill the *bleep* out.

Don't care what happens, both Activision AND Courtney Love are retarded anyway.

    Bring on the fatty, Tiger

Seriously though. I hate the saying "it's just a game." Sure it is, but it's also a piece of culture and art. It's worthwhile to look at the issue of how real people are portrayed in video games.

What if there was a Halo movie and Master Chief was prancing around like a sissy with flowers or something equally out of character. You better believe Halo fans will be mad.

This isn't a call to action for some particular outcome of the situation. Just an examination at how extra care can yield better results. Every medium has a unique way of telling a story and being a work of art. As video games struggle to find their way, these types of issues are worth examining.

At first, I also held the opinion of who cares. But after seeing the video, that is pretty rough. Cobain wasn't a happy guy who jumped around and sang dime-a-dozen songs. His songs were harsh and reflected the way he felt, which in the end was way more depressed and broken than people knew. If you want to recapture the moment, that's fine. But don't pull his image into something he'd never have anything to do with in the first place.
