Today I explore Xbox Live, and explain why I believe it is about $30 a year over priced. Shouldn't Microsoft be looking to add value to their console? Especially in light of the success that the PS3 Slim has been, and how much in the tank the economy is. At this point why am I even paying for Xbox Live? It is influencing my purchasing decisions, and I am thinking of canceling Gold and just buying all my multiplayer games for the PS3.

"During a couple of my last posts I had written about how Xbox Live is over priced, but never offered too much of an explanation. I mean the articles where about different topics, but there were numerous comment postings defending XBL. I wanted to lay out my case that Microsoft is clearly over charging for Live and that some of the downloadable content is nothing more then a money grab. That is not to say Sony is innocent with the PSN, but it is easier to forgive them for that. The Playstation Network is free afterall, isn't it?"

Soo The reason where paying for xbox live is for twitter and facebook.

So what did we waste our money on before they came out?

These aren't the reason were paying for it, there called BONUSES for the gold members. It makes being a gold member have more options over the silver so the silver's can upgrade to gold.

Granted XboxLive is overpriced but it is a great and fantastic online experience and almost everything you listed are just added bonuses for us.

So what do we pay Xbox for then? Just the ability to play online? I am a little confused as to what we are paying for, if not the bonus stuff. PC and PS3 is free to play online.

several things go into it, but I think were paying for bandwidth.

Meaning the reasons why so many dlc that wasn't purchased by Microsoft shows up first, or better on the 360. Because since were paying for online or something, developers spend less money creating dlc on the 360 than they do on the ps3 in which they have to pay sony directly for putting stuff on psn.

I could be wrong, Microsoft could be in it just for the money (but they already have dlc for that) but either way, 360 is a fantastic experience (PSN is also a great experience) but when you can get a years worth for like $30 or just pay the $50 a year which isn't that much then really there's not much to complain about.

My larger point is value compared to PSN. PSN acts more like something you would expect from a PC centric online service, and just like the PC it is free. Don't get me wrong here, I am a gamer first and foremost. Most of the time I think 'fanboy' type arguments are kind of stupid. So if you own both consoles, at this point why would you continue to pay for Xbox Live? The only online game coming out, that is 'exclusive' to the Xbox this fall is Left 4 Dead 2. A game I could just as easily purchase for the PC, which is also the superior version. I just feel ripped off lately. It used to not be the case, but PSN has made great strides to catch Xbox Live.

The way my finances have been this year, if I was ever paying for playing online, I would have had to cancel it.
