Spawn Kill writes about how PSN users are still waiting for their "Premium Avatars" Sony promised just after the release of Firmware 3.00. The post also contains two makeshift concepts of the new Avatars, courtesy of a devoted Playstation User at the official forums.
It’s been a few weeks since firmware update 3.00 launched on the PlayStation 3, signifying the dawn of the PS3 Slim. After seconds of release, thousands of PlayStation users flocked back to their gaming forums to moan about how minimal and bland the update had been. Apart from technical fixes, the update also raked in plenty of visual changes to the Cross Media Bar (XMB.) Fonts had been broadened, a sparkling animated effect had applied itself to the classic background, friends on your contact list were now boxed in, and also, dynamic themes became available for the first time. All of these features didn’t really displease me in any fashion, nor did they impress me, but if there was one thing I was looking for in the 3.00 update, it was more avatars to toy around with, something that was never included in the update, though it had been said.

Edit: It's going to get to a point where developers like Naughty Dog are going to be saying "Uncharted 3 only has an install because the 10Mb of RAM we needed to stream it all was being taken up making Crash Bandicoots head wobble in an avatar." PS3 games aren't getting less resource heavy, they need more to look better all this premium and dynamic shit is cool but it's going to affect our games at some point.
