Batman Begins and The Dark Knight arguably brought the Batman franchise back into the mainstream. But for Batman fans, Arkham Asylum did a much better job at portraying the comic book series they all know and love.
PS3center.net explains why Arkham Asylum outdoes the new Batman movies.

Before I even begin to write this article let me clearly state that I’m a huge Batman fan in general. I love the comics, I love the movies, I love the games, I love anything and everything that is Batman. With this article I am not stating the movie or games are terrible. I am purely stating my opinion about the game and making a comparison to the movies. When referencing movies also note that I’m only referring to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight—nothing before those.

Batman Arkham Asylum is a very amazing game, noted to be the best superhero game to date by several reviews and other sites. When I finally got the chance to rent this game I was completely blown away, to the point where if I had the money I would go out and buy it that very second. The storytelling and graphical appeal of the game is absolutely amazing. However, those are all details for our upcoming review—right now I want to talk about something else: how the team behind AA out-does the team behind the latest movies.

I thought this article would make me rage, but i pretty much agree whole-heartedly with it. The current Batman movie trend is Realism, gritty realism. While this works amazingly, it's difficult to pull of certain characters, like say Killer Croc or Poison Ivey without making it seem cheesy (I'm looking at you, Batman Forever).

And yes, Batman as a character in the movies is... bland. The supporting cast is what makes the movie.

Be fair, it's pretty hard for Christian Bale to emote through that unyielding mask, especially when he's using the gravelly Bat-Voice.

True but even when he's not under the mask he still looks exactly the same all the time.

This may be true, and I can't deny it doesn't make any good points, but I still prefer the movies over the games any day.

yeah i dont think the game outdoes the movies, they both do certain things better than the other. true, Christian Bale doesnt have a good Batman voice and the animated guy is better, but i really dont think Mark Hamill is the "king of Joker". i actually liked Heath Ledger a whole lot better than Hamill's Joker. now i never watched the Batman cartoon much as a kid, and Hamill is pretty good at it, but there is a reason Ledger won an Oscar for Joker, lets not forget that.

the game is good in that it delved deeper into the comics and portrayed more villains and everything, but thats alot easier for a game to do than a movie. so they both did things well, and neither one outdoes the other.

Well, I'm not that big of a Batman fan. Played AA, watched the movies that's about it. But, I think I can shed some light on the Heath Ledger, Mark Hamil thing at least.

Movies are usually the more gritty real side of things. Which Heath did masterfully, but the true fans love the ridiculous over the top Joker that has wants people to die with smiles or their face, albeit grotesquely forced smiles. Which is something that would be out of place in the newer movies, and for Heath's portrayal.

For my money Heath is a better Joker, but Hamil is great too and I can see where they're coming from.

Yeah, Mark Hamill's Joker's popularity comes form both the Batman: Animated Series and the fact that his version of the Joker (especially the AA interpretation) is essentially the Joker from the comic books. He isn't 100% serious, but he isn't 100% a jokester either. He's a mix in between and Mark Hamill nailed that, and that's what the comic fans like about him.

i know, and i like his Joker, i just thought Ledger took Joker to new heights of creepy insanity. he wasnt the jokey type of Joker but that made him all the more despicable of a character.

      Yeah, 'cause he died.

he was nominated before he died. he would still have won even if he was there to receive it. did we watch the same movie?

Regardless of whether he was going to get it anyway that was why he inevitably got it and that will always be how he'll be remembered, hence why the very performance (as a performance) has been trivialized into not having anything to do with his very real skill.

What I'm saying is he could have gotten it on merit alone, but he didn't, he got it because he died which is why it's a damn shame. Don't automatically assume that someone's going against you just because they say something you can conceive in such a way.

oh i see, so you say the Oscar guys picked him mostly cause he died. mmm, that makes sense i guess, but i think he still would have won even if he didnt. his death probably sealed the deal in a big way, but he didnt have all that great of competition IIRC.

anyway, i was just responding to who wrote that article, as if they were saying Ledger's Joker was complete shit and Hamill is the only good Joker which is just laughably stupid.

          Don't sweat it, I was just being a smart-arse.

I can't see how you came to your conclusion though, they did say 'Heath Ledger did an amazing job in The Dark Knight, but let’s not forget who the true king of the Joker is.'. That says to me that they prefer the Arkham/Hamill Joker over the great, but different DK/Ledger, nothing to do with him being complete shit at all.
