Like the pre-release buzz surrounding PS3 Slim, the Wii is also generating a lot of rumors about an impending price cut and it looks like it’s going to happen real soon. There will always be discussions on who’s going to be on top of the "console wars," but what does the Wii price cut mean to regular gamers like you and me? Mike Got Game mulls over some possibilities.

It had to happen. After Sony introduced the PlayStation 3 Slim and Microsoft confirmed the Xbox 360 price drop, the onus was on Nintendo to follow suit with the Wii. Oh yeah, the scanned flyers announcing the Wii price drop certainly helped, but nothing beats hearing it from the House that Mario Built.

According to Nintendojo, it was confirmed during a retailer conference call that effective Sunday, September 27th, the Wii’s price tag would be trimmed down to $199. Earlier today, Engadget reported that Best Buy will also be selling the Wii at $199.

Then again, shovelware isn’t evergreen like Wii Fit or Mario Kart Wii. This reason makes quality first-party games irreplaceable in a business perspective. So if stronger Wii sales mean more quality games, I’m all for it.
You know, I never really thought of it that way. I just saw it as Nintendo selling more consoles.
