Video game remakes have become a popular topic over the last few years, with fans begging developers to recreate their favorite games for this generation. But are remakes really worth it?

Go to the source for the full article.

Remakes. What is it about remakes? Gamers want all kinds of old games remade. Final Fantasy 7 is a big one. Recently I have also heard Metal Gear Solid 1, Killer Instinct, Resident Evil 1 & 2, Golden Eye, Almost any other Final Fantasy title and Zelda: Ocarina of Time. While I will give you that these are all classic and good games. I personally see little to no reason to remake them. However let’s go through the reasons why gamers want a remake and why it might not be such a good idea.

Yeah but I would like a REAL MGS remake not that shitty Metal Gear Solid Matrix Edition.

What about Twin Snakes on the GameCube? It was a great improvement over the original in my opinion.

That's what Gamesta100 was talking about, when he said Matrix, he meant the over the top cutscenes in the game.

Dude, TTS was a parody on the original MGS. I played it several times and now I despise it. The cutscenes were way over the top and certainly didn't belong in a MGS game. C'mon. Snake jumping off an already fired missile? Jumping 10 feet in the air while doing a back flip? All I could do when I first saw this was chuckle, as if a 30 year old dude could do that. The only good cutscenes that came from that game were the ones involving the Ninja, especially vs. REX. The gameplay was a cut-and-paste from MGS2, making pretty much every aspect of the game easier with FPV. They changed nothing. Even the battle with the M1 was easy. Ocelot was easy. Raven was easy. WTF!? The music was also redone NOT to my liking. They removed "The Best is Yet to Come" from the game, save for the credits. And that song really helped flesh out the emotions in the game. Another thing they absolutely destroyed. ARRGGHHH!!! This game pisses me off! Oh, and don't even get me started on the horrible voice acting done by Jennifer Hale. She absolutely butchered a masterpiece from the original. Now she sounds like an unamused brick. And even worse, they use this voice work as the background dialogue in Ch.4 of MGS4. I was like WTF!?! I HATE TTS.

I was about to make a comment, bitching about you to stop bitching, and as I realized this hypocrisy, and especially since I love to bitch, I instead say, continue bitching fellow gamer, it may be all that we have left from a shitty experience.

I did go on a bit didn't I? Well the game pisses me off. I had to vent.

It doesn't matter what the article says. A Resident Evil 2 and 3 remake on PS3/360 would be the eqivalent to having Morgan Freeman's voice as your car's GPS system. *bleep*ing awesome!

I second, third, fourth fifth, hell go through all the numbers for a RE2 remake on today's gen. consoles.

Remakes are good when used in moderation. I mean, they need to give it a few years before doing a remake. Not the case for FFIV on the GBA and then FFIV on the DS, both of which I own. -_- Great game, but again, moderation...I'm looking at you, Squeenix.

While I might have a heart attack at the mear sight of RE2/3 in pure HD, I'm afraid that Capcom will tarnish it.

Let them make RE6 first before asking for a remake or we'll be fighting "Ganados" all over again.

The RE1 remake was great. As long as Capcom follow that formula with an RE2 and RE3 remake, they can't go wrong.

          *fingers crossed*

Remakes are a good thing, as you may really like the game but get put off by the terrible graphics and can't stand to play it as you are so used to having such great graphics infront of you, so remaking a game can get rid of this problem and make playing an old game great again by the fact that everything has been updated visual wise to the 21st century.

I haven't played many remakes of games, but the first two remakes of Final Fantasy I & II for GBA were quite good. They work quite well on handhelds.

I loved the Super Mario brothers remakes on the GBA as well.

They where ports with slight fixes in the graphics to better accommodate the GBA and I think a new mode? or it was packaged with the old mario bros.

So call it what you will. I don't know wth to call it.

If there were any games that needed to be remade, its the original Blood Omen and Soul Reaver games. I've been waiting for that announcement for years. Blood Omen was a masterpiece in itself, but thinking about it being redone in a 3D world with more spells, items, bosses...not to mention the ability to see Lady Azimuth's face (I had a jpg. a long time ago but I lost it; she's the only one of the 8 that don't get a proper face shot)...the thought is overwhelming.

And Soul Reaver, with its 4+ hours of deleted content (2 bosses, 8 more Reaver upgrades, 2 unexplored regions, 1 more Glyph, 2 more abilities), it'd be my dream game. Obviously they'd have to remake the original as well as the "director's cut" for continuities sake, but I'd kill to be able to explore the Undercity Lair.

It was these 2 games and MGS that I wanted remade. 1 has been done (and it sucked ass) and the others have yet to be hinted at.

But the TR remake was pretty cool. I actually really enjoyed that game.

But if FFVII/VIII/IX remakes came out I'd certainly pick them up. Especially VIII.
