John Common of CrowbarError42.com takes a look at the games in the Half-Life series and talks about if they are considered canon by himself, the community and the developers.

"This is the first in hopefully a series of articles, where each time we take a look at all the games in a particular series and talk about what the developer, the community & our own opinion is on whether its story and events in them are considered canonical within the series.

This time we tackle the Half-Life series."

Portal is attached here -- it's not considered part of the Half-Life series canon, is it? That would be cool though.

Aperture Science, the company that made the portal gun and GLaDOS, will be heavily featured in HL: Episode 3 (in episode 2, you see a big boat called the Borealis that has Aperture's logo on it). Not only that, but if you look carefully during one level, you'll see a slideshow that actually points out Aperture Science's rivalry with Black Mesa (there are also some websites that go further into it made by the devs), so Portal is definitely canon. It's subtle but there, which I thought made it really interesting.

dude in the Still Alive song, they mention Black Mesa by name...

it would really rule if you could get ahold of a Portal Gun in Ep 3. Portal Gun + Grav Gun FTW!!!
