Demon's Souls is becoming quite well known for it's ridiculously high difficulty level. But while that may have been a common thing during the retro days of gaming, will this generation of gamers appreciate a game such as Demon's Souls?

In the current game market, Atlus Inc.'s Demon's Souls for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 shouldn't exist. The title tosses out modern game design to let each user earn their success through trial and error in a 'no save, no mercy' world.

No they won't appreciate it, just like children these days will never appreciate the old school days of Mario. Super Mario Bros. Is probably too hard for this generation of gamers with their hint boxes, auto aim in shooters and regenerating health. Where is the challenge? There isn't one, I see Demon's Souls being the most traded game of all time, this new generation will buy it thinking "JOY! It's an action RPG like Oblivion" getting stuck on level 1-1 and then trading it in for Modern Warfare 2 or something mind numbingly easy.

Harsh but probably accurate. I think enough hardcore people will enjoy it though, and hope it does open up the market for a few more challenging titles. I'm not really into all this super difficulty stuff, but having something to balance out all those casual games would be nice.

Annoying thing is, is that Demon's Souls wouldn't feel as hard as it does if we as gamers hadn't all been conditioned with gradually easy titles over the years. Gaming in the late 80's early 90's was very hard, there was nothing to help you other than password entry screens which were counter productive for cheating, as if you were stuck on level 3, level 65 isn't going to be any easier. Though somewhere along the line someone decides that gamers don't like a challenge and that has sadly stuck. So much so my derogatory attack at todays gaming generation with Mario may even include myself. As a child I could beat Mario, MegaMan and Sonic with my eyes closed, now after years of regenerating health and easy games something as simple as Mario is pretty difficult.. It's a shame that I was a better gamer when I was 5 years old than I am now thanks to modern and easy gaming.

I have yet to get past the first 20 minutes of this game. My friend hated it so much that he returned it to Gamestop only after about an hour of playing it. I thought I was going to do the same but I really like how fair the game has felt and the fighting has been a lot of fun. It is my new goal to make sure to beat this game, I want to see all the bosses, they all seem so epic.

There are not enough "F"s available in the the character count for me to accurately describe some of the situations I've gotten myself in with the game. After tip toeing through the level, shield up watching every step for an hour or so, only to get to a boss that does a two hit kill from a blindside attack.... Definitely one of those moments.

But goddamn I love it. Even though there's certain things that make the level go by quicker (Such as unlocking doors, shutting down defenses), each go through will be a challenge. You learn from your mistakes (as well as others), and if you don't... you pay the price.

You're not the super-soldier as most generic video games depicts you as, you're just as weak as the enemies... all of them. And the game quickly gives you a bitch-smack to put you in your place if you forget that for a second.

This game can definitely be hard. That shouldn't be a mystery to ANYONE at this point!!! However, there seems to be quite a few people going out and returning it after an hour of getting their asses stomped into the ground. If people would give it their full attention for just an evening they would realize that it's not overly difficult when you LEARN the levels and the enemy actions.

Does anyone remember Super Mario Bros level 8-3? Right before the main boss you had Bullet Bill, Hammer Bros, Koopas, etc. That game threw everything it could at you on that level. Remember when you got near the end of that level only to have a Hammer brother appear and knock you out? You had no more lives left either because you didn't use the 99+ lives trick. It pissed ya off to start over....but you did! And you kept playing that level over and over and over again until you knew it like the back of your hand. THAT my friends is exactly what Demon's Souls emulates. Just like in the old days.....if you're having a hard time, take a break for 30 minutes and come back to it!

It captures that moment of gaming that doesn't exist anymore, and gives it to us in a beautiful package. If you're not willing to give it a chance, then don't bother picking it up. If you are going to give it a shot, I suggest keeping a shooter next to your system for when you want to take out your frustrations. Come back to Demon's Souls with a fresh perspective and you'd be amazed at how much you accomplish.

I have earned two trophies from this game so far. And I can honestly tell you they are by far the most well earned trophies I have. A Demon's Souls platinum will be a rare sight, but one I plan to earn.

Ha! Definitely. I can care less about the trophies I got from all of the other games I have, but these... these I actual consider "trophies".

Now this I agree with completely. It's something I wish Sony had tried to impress upon developers in the beginning: trophies should represent real accomplishments, not simple things like "I beat this level, I found this easter egg." In Demon's Souls, you get just that: trophies for actual effort you put into the game.

I myself am going to be holding off buying the game right now because I'm incredibly busy, and I'm not worried about it selling out in my town.

what's so hard about it? the starting over part with no check point? the enemies don't seem too hard from the first level. i've been dying due to platform issues but never killed.

I think there is a big problem is with the PERCEPTION of the newest generation of gamers. Because of the success of casual games, developers are mistakenly try to appeal to that market by making a lot of games simpler. I think the new generation of gamers enjoy hardcore and challenging and deep games, but a lot of dev's are under-estimating their audiences, and short-changing them under the guise of 'stream-lining gameplay'.
