The Nintendo Wii has arguably recieved the most flak of all current gen consoles. But with it's declining sales and upset fans, is the Wii dying? This is a question 1UP recently asked.

Every hack, pundit and fanboy has taken to aiming a good solid kicking in the Wii’s direction. Many have chosen to simply ignore it in the hopes that it will cease to exist. Nintendo have apparently lost the plot, dropped the ball, slipped up and fallen behind in the hardware war and it is hard to read such articles without the accompanying mental image of Ming the Merciless cackling away into a crystal ball whilst screaming ‘I told you so!’

So pushing past the hyperbole, is the Wii dying? Well of course I can’t provide a definite answer (my crystal ball is currently on the blink) but looking at various aspects of the current situation we can reasonably analyze the situation and draw some likely conclusions. Or at least spout nonsense in an authoritative manner.

Dying? Well considering how high it's sales were all these years, I just think things are finally beginning to settle down. Everyone and their dog has a Wii now, after all.

I love 1UP's intro to this matter.

Yeah, I agree. I think Nintendo's saturated the market at this point. The recent price-drop should help it out a bit. But I'm sure Nintendo's satisfied with the Wii's success.

I work in a retail store that sells games and consoles, and I can say without a doubt that it is not dying.

The console was always meant to be bought and owned by people who already own the PS3, XBOX360, or a PC. It was never meant to compete, but rather compliment the bigger next gen console.

So that must mean that Nintendo's expectations were surpassed as the machine became it's own entity in a way...

why do we always have to use drastic words like 'dying'?
