Quentyn Kennemer of AnalogHype writes about the news of Infinity Ward scrapping co-op from the upcoming Modern Warfare 2's main campaign. This immediately set him off, but the reason why they scrapped it and how they tried to spin it to hide their inability to make it work.

...it really broke the cinematic experience, took the immersion out of it, out of the story and the pacing and everything we’d spent so long crafting. It just ruined the experience we were aiming for, so we took it out, kept the single-player for that one player intact and polished it.

Come on Activision. You can do better then that.

Once again, you can't do this yet say "Modern Warfare 2 will be the best *bleep*ing experience we can offer".

Yeah but I don't think they said *bleep*..

I love Co-op in games, so I think they are idiots for removing it.

Getting rid of Co-op in a shooter is down right idiotic, the co-op experience is what makes shooters a hell of a lot more fun. I swear Activision must be *bleep*ed in the head or something.

Doesn't affect me anyhow, i'm getting the better shooter of November which is Left 4 Dead 2 and guess what? IT HAS CO-OP.

I swear, Killzone 2 would have been a much more epic FPS if they had managed to squeeze co-op in there. Sadly, there is no such mode.

I find splitscreen co-op most fun. Unfortunately most PS3 exclusive shooters aren't able to handle two simultaneously rendered levels due to pushing out heavy visuals and such. Though Gears 2 didn't seem to have that issue.

Killzone 2 felt like it should've been a game with co-op in it too, the characters seemed to always have a partner with them. It doesn't bother me that there's no co-op in the story unless Roach's partners are there with him the entire game relying on him to progress.

You *bleep*ing idiots. It still has co-op. 23 spec-ops missions not enough for you? Really?

Just cause they want single player to, wait for the blasphemy, to be single player. It's not a reason to go apeshit.

You can't market something as the best experience you can offer, and exclude a mode that was in the previous installment. That is very ironic.

What doesn't it have that WaW had? Aside from Nazi Zombies.

Nazi Zombies and now Co-Op. And don't give me the bullshit "iz modern no nazi lol" they could've put a Modern Twist on it.

One of the big improvements OVER Modern Warfare was co-op. But whatever, Infinity Ward can do whatever they want. We won't stop them. I just wish they would stay true to what they've been saying. I mean, how ironic is it to say it's going to be the best you can offer, but exclude one of the better points of the game before it?

That's like buying a new computer and claiming its the best even if it doesn't have 8 GB of RAM or the new nVidia video card.

You're not listing....it has co-op. You want to play Modern Warfare 2 with a buddy? Good, cause you can. So now it's only Nazi Zombies...and honestly if that's a deal breaker, so be it.

It's probably better of this way to be honest. Think about all the different mini-cinematic moments that would be ruined with co-op. Like in the first campaign video they released, the part where the player tries to jump a gap and the NPC has to save him. What would happen in co-op, all four players would have to be saved in a row? I'm sure there's other moments that it would ruin that we don't know about yet as well, especially on the covert/stealth stuff, where there's a lot of timed events.

Co-op really only works in parts where you already had several NPC allies, like most of the Marine missions from CoD4.

They could've actually put in (like Resistance 2 or Uncharted 2) a seperate, alternative campaign co-op to play through both online and off.

The experience wouldn't be nearly the same then, would it? The whole idea of co-op is to enjoy the story with friends. If you just want to kill bad guys all day, then that's what the Spec-Ops mode is for.

...that's what they did. It's called spec ops.

"as long, if not not longer the single player" Co-op spec-op modes does this for me, thanks. But you can keep ignoring a whole mode if you MUST get your point across.

Honestly, who cares if the story mode doesn't have co-op play? For christ's sake, Spec Ops should be enough for you people. It's better than no co-op at all. (I'm looking at Killzone 2, COD4, GTA4 here)

ruin the experience? it's a linear campaign in a textbook fps game. exactly what 'experience' are they talking about?

But they have a separate co-op campaign... called Spec-Ops.

Isn't that kind of... better? You have two separate experiences geared for two different gameplay types.

I don't see why there's any valid complaint about it.

I'm assuming it's because the cinematic sequences. Say If you're on the floor and someone slides you a pistol to kill a guy. It wouldn't work with 2 people and they couldn't be bothered changing it all to make it work.

I don't really mind what they do. It's gonna be great anyway.
