2009 has been a great year for us gamers. While there are still a few anticipated AAA titles to come, we have hand picked 6 games that have already been released that will more than likely be on the shortlist for the 2009 Game Of The Year.

    Why in the HELL is ODST on there? There's just no way a game of that caliber can even be considered GOTY material.

      "INDIE" SITE!! What are you smoking Slumpy, if you look at the Contact Us page it is clearly an AUSTRALIAN site. Gee, some people need to read and open their eyes a bit more.

        I meant indie as in independent. Because usually indie is usually associated with things independent from the major players.

        I was trying to be nice and not call it a shitty amature site, which it is. But yeah.

          Well, I can't imagine you'd think it's an amateur site. But we're talking majority versus minority here, and the majority thinks that this list is poor.

    Resident Evil 5 is an awesome game. It's a pretty good list although ODST would only be considered for its sales and overall package value. My personal favorite is Fifa 10, but I doubt any game will beat Uncharted 2 this year.

    The real contest will be: Uncharted 2 vs. Modern Warfare 2

    Assassin's Creed 2 COULD come up from behind and take us all by surprise. I'd actually love for that to happen, but it's unrealistic. Brutal Legend will be overlooked, ODST won't be GOTY, Killzone 2 has slipped from everyone's minds, and Arkham Asylum would certainly be the 'underdog' and I'm sure while it will win several sites' GOTY Award, it will still just be an underdog.

      That sums it up pretty well actually. As much as I like ODST, there are better games gunning for the title. But GotY awards are such a joke anyway. I only pay attention to watch fanboys weep.

      To be fair, FIFA is way more popular than either of those games and it has appeals to a huge fanbase; not to mention it being a multi-platform game. And the catagory can use a sports game rather than the usual action/adventure type of games imo.

      Anywho, I'm way behind Uncharted 2 to win this. I have never experienced such satisfaction playing a game this gen since MGS4. If I had a second choice it would go to either Batman: AA or RE5. Both were pretty awesome games in their own rights.

      Also, ODST ftl. Waste of nomination. It'll probably somehow come in the top. And I'll be preparing to eat my hat when it does.

      It's disappointing to think it as well; I'd have at least hoped an indy site would have focussed on games that deserve GOTY more than the ones that have a chance due to popularity and hype. A shame, really.

    I really don't think FIFA and ODST should be on there, but knowing the industry the latter will probably win despite its lack of content. Killzone 2 was released way back, which gives it a pretty big disadvantage, Resisent Evil 5 to an extent as well. So of these 6 I would put Batman and Uncharted as the top picks, with Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 coming in strong later.

      Kind of ridiculous right? People forget about older games when they still released in the same year. It should be GOT fall. Cause thats how a lot of people judge a game. Or even give it the prize.

    As long as Uncharted 2 is at least a nominee I'm good. But when Modern Warfare 2 is released it will be selling like hotcakes and all the reviewers will be flocking over to it and giving the game scores like 9000/10.

    Brutal Legend deserves GOTY tbh, for being extremely unique, awesome and hilarious and having possibly one of the best heavy metal storylines ever.

    But who am i kidding? The extremely overrated Call of Duty: Yet another war game 2 will probably end up getting it.

      Well truth be told, Infinity Ward are kick-ass developers, but yeah it may be taken out of proportion like every other extremely hyped game.

      My vote will either be for Batman or L4D2 depending on the situation.

    I believe GOTY should be decided by the masses, like a survey. It's what im doing right now for games from October 1st 08 - October 1st 09 (As the Uncharted 2 hype would've put it at 1st)

    The fact that FIFA 10 makes it in this list shows how much of a piss poor year this was for gaming.

    Not that it's bad, but sports games don't belong anywhere near the GOTY shortlist.

    Killzone 2, Resident Evil 5, Uncharted 2, Halo ODST, Forza 3, Gran Turismo 5, God Of War collection, Left 4 Dead 2, Demon's Souls, inFamous.
