New Challenger: 3 Reasons Why Gaming Will Destroy Itself Part 1

RatedG4Gamer has posted up an interesting article, submitted by one of its readers. It's asking the question "do people really care about Game of the Year awards?"
"It's closer to that time of the year when the likes of IGN, Gamespot and Gametrailers all announce their picks for Game of the Year. But really, think about it, what makes Game of the Year so important? Is it the prestige given to the games that are nominated? Or is it just a time for fanboys to jump into the comments sections of articles and post their thoughts about the games nominated and either agree or disagree with the final choice of game that ends up holding this so called important title?

Sometimes, people just need to loosen up and realize that its all just games. and we should just have fun playing.
Anyway, you can apply the "Who cares?" mentality to practically anything relating to the opinion of others: metacritic scores, reviews, top ten lists, etc. GoTY nominations and predictions are just another topic starter, the way I see it.
