New Challenger: 3 Reasons Why Gaming Will Destroy Itself Part 1
21 hours 6 mins ago
Ratchet & Clank have been Insomniacs mascots. It was also one of the most popular games on the PS2 as well as the PS3. But we see it all the time when developers keep milking sequels. Will Insomniac say enough is enough after a Crack in Time and move on? Or will they keep creating the game for the die hard fans? Continue reading on and post your thoughts if Insomniac should move on.
When does a video game franchise end?
It's sometimes hard to tell. The immortal Mario the plumber has appeared in more than 200 video games since 1981 and is still going strong.
However, one popular series may be ready to give its fans some closure. Ratchet and Clank have been spanning their fictional universe since 2002 in an effort to defeat evil and save all from certain doom. The franchise, about two intergalactic heroes fighting evil, has sold more than 16 million copies.
Despite that, the game's developers are hinting that the upcoming "Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time" may be the last in the series, an unusual occurrence for an industry in which sequels to best-selling games are often announced far in advance.

Well, Crash Bandicoot was awesome, but when they started milking it on the PS2, it became crap. If the devs don't want to make another R&C game, or if they want to milk the franchise, they should stop making them. Move on and create another great IP.
Existence, Crash Bandicoot was made by ND though, not Insomniac. But Crash was awesome only because Naughty Dog was the ones behind it. The moment someone else took over that character, the games went down the toilet and fast!
It's the same with Spyro. Spyro was awesome . . . as long as Insomniac was behind it. The moment they stopped making the games, and someone else took over it, it went down the toilet even faster than Crash!
I seriously hope we don't see the same happen with Ratchet and Clank! In my opinion, a series is not being milked if it still remains fresh with a great storyline and gameplay and graphics. If the story becomes blah and the games start going downhill, THEN it's obvious that the series is being milked. Being Milked tends to mean getting the very last drop out of something . . . sqeezing as much as possible out of it. So as long as things are going great, it's far from "milking" to me.
I think if they are running out of ideas, then maybe take a year off, or start on a new game. They've got two established franchises with R&C and Resistance. If they skipped a Rachet game in 2011 and made a different game all together, it wouldn't be all that bad. Plus they could always bring it back, or release another game on PSP.
I don't want the series to end, but I'd rather it go now then see Rachet and Clank go down that long hole where once great games have turned into a milked franchise.
