Why Uncharted 2 Could Spell Bad News for the Games Industry

Fairly light hearted musings regarding how Uncharted 2's release could help shape the future games industry for the better, drawing comparisons with Bioshock, Fallout 3 and Metal Gear Solid 4.

"Before I get into this, I imagine you saw the title and thought 'What?! This guy's clearly an idiot. Uncharted 2 is bloody awesome, keep your opinions to yourself before the wrath of the internet eats you whole.' Bravo, you fell right into my cunning, yet journalistically clichéd trap, you poor thing. I only just finished Uncharted 2, I know, I'm a terrible person. I couldn't start playing it until the Saturday afternoon and being such the social butterfly/part-time waiter I am, didn't get to complete it until today."

    The only thing I see it doing is setting the bar that much higher, which is a win-win situation for us consumers...forces these developers to get their acts together and realize that half-assed games won't cut it anymore.

        Ah, yeah I didn't read it, some impulse kicked in and had me type all that. Only downside here is that the smaller dev companies may be left in the dust, as they don't have as much development time or cash to produce an exceptionally great product...then again sometimes a little bit can go a long way. Paranormal Activity, for example, low budget but got buzz.

    Eh, no it won't. You'll see that a couple of months from now, while U2 left its mark, it will definitely not going to be such a critical history making landmark. Killzone 2 and Gears of War broke some barriers in graphics and it's not like all games are lining up to match them anyways.

      The character models in Uncharted 2...y'know what, everything in Uncharted 2 is much better than Killzone 2.

    Misleading title is misleading.

    The guy makes a bloody good point! This game is so awesome, that other devs are gonna realize their shit aint gonna cut it to please the masses so they gotta up the ante to please us. Uncharted 2 surpasses most gamers standards on what a game should be and thus will mean that game devs will try harder to satisfy these new standards with better games.
