Sony and Netflix have announced that Instant Queue streaming will be coming to the PlayStation 3 starting next month. While Microsoft and the Xbox 360 got there first, here are five reasosn why the PS3 will do it best.

PlayStation 3 is about to become the preferred way to stream your Netflix Instant Queue on a video game console. Sony and Netflix will send out a free Blu-Ray disc to all Netflix members in the U.S. next month, as long as they sign up for it here. Launching Netflix requires a special Blu-Ray disc, but there are advantages to playing your queue via the XMB over Xbox 360.

Haha wow, now Microsoft can't use the Netflix excuse. Thing is though, I'm not liking how you need that disc. I wonder what it's for and what the hell is on it.

Perhaps it's just data that you install to the console, perhaps the service protocol is too big to be added as a firmware for all.

I heard it was for localization. Since Netflix is US only, it'd be rather easy just to create a US account on the PS3; but that'll be fixed down the road.

Just an explanation I heard somewhere makes a bit of sense

"The free instant streaming disc leverages Blu-ray's BD-Live(TM) technology to access the Internet and activate the Netflix user interface on the PS3 system, which must be online via Wi-Fi or Ethernet."

Taken from the press release that was linked on the Playstation Blog.

I'm kind of wondering what's going to happen with the vidya store in the PS Store after Netflix arrives on the PS3?

We're already seeing "Top X reasons this version is better" lists?! WOW, that was fast.

When I heard about this I have to say that I was kinda shocked. I didn't expect Sony to team up with Netflix, but either a different video service, or create their own...

I kinda wonder why they did it though... They have their own video store. I assume it was only to provide convenience to their consumers who already had netflix accounts and wanted to stream via their PS3.

Well, 360 has a store as well, right? Since the star of the Ps3, they've been trying to make it the hub for all things entertainment in the house. Adding Netflix is perfect for achieving that goal. Also, for competing against the 360

Yeah but netflix kinda kills the purpose of the video store.

People seem to forget mentioning that you need a Netfix account for either though. And as mentioned before, Netflix is a US company so they'll probably take some time before it hits international.

Netflix is the major player in the movie rental market in the US. Many people already have accounts. Until they start buying up video rentals in the UK, I don't think it will be going outside of the US anytime soon.

They sure are, I have some 60+ movies and shows on my Instant Watch list. Wondering when they'll put Dexter season 3 up there.

Anyway, the point is this is limited to one region so people shouldn't get so worked up about it. Makes no sense for a UK resident Sony fan to go "Hah, ours is better now," when they can't get it in the first place.
