With all of the noise being made over Modern Warfare 2's lack of dedicated servers on the PC, one would think that people who joined anti-MW2 groups would actually not play the game.

That, as it turns out, is not the case.

One of the favorite things that jaded gamers like to do is hold boycotts against a particular product. They called for a boycott against Final Fantasy XIII because Square Enix had the audacity to release it on Xbox 360. They called for a boycott against Diablo III because it was, le gasp, “too colorful“. They tried to boycott Left 4 Dead 2… and failed after Valve flew the two masterminds behind the temper tantrum to their offices to show how awesome Left 4 Dead 2 was.

Most recently, they called for a boycott of Modern Warfare 2 because the PC version did not have dedicated servers and map caps at 9 vs.9.

This is why the Modern Warfare 2 boycott has officially failed:

If that were true, people wouldn't keep boycotting things.

People are ignorant. Almost all boycotts fail, that's a fact. That doesn't mean people aren't going to continue to boycott things, because they always figure "hey, maybe it will actually work".

Well, basically most boycotts are bluffs. Most of the time the bluffs are called. I suppose it's worth it to jump on the boycott train, just in case it works out. If not who cares? As long as you don't publicly front the boycott train, then you look like an idiot.

Nothing really suprising about this. These are the fans who care enough about the development of the game to tell the developers what they want. Sure they'd likely want dedicated servers, but it doesn't mean they still can't enjoy the game.

Whilst that's true, they sure do need to make their group info and title a bit less misleading. As it stands, the group is meant to boycott the game until MW2 gets dedicated servers, if ever.

Indeed. They'd only have to remove 'Boycott' from the title to be a lot more reasonable.
