Legend of Zelda is one of the best known game series, but is it in need of a change or update? Legendzelda.net thinks so, and they believe the makers should take some tips from Fallout 3.

[The Legend of Zelda Wii Forum]

The Legend of Zelda series is in need of change. This mindset is shared by the majority of Zelda fans out there. The formula has remained basically the same ever since the first game with the exception of The Adventure of Link.

Of course there has been progress in the series, otherwise people would have stopped buying Zelda games years ago. This progress however has been very subtle and just enough to keep us coming back. Since The Ocarina of Time was released in 1998 we have yet to have any major changes to the series. The Ocarina of Time went on to sell 7.6 million copies and got one of the highest reviews of any video game in history. This was because Nintendo took the already popular Zelda series in a brand new direction and the result was absolutely amazing.

So where should Nintendo go now? How can they make the Legend of Zelda fresh and new for its fans and other gamers? In my opinion they should make the game more like the popular Fallout 3 series. Fallout was a well established PC gaming series but it had never appealed to a large gaming base. However, Bethesda Studios took the reins in making Fallout 3 and the end result was a huge success. Fallout 3 shipped about 4.7 million copies in the first week alone and many more with the release of the Game of the Year Edition.

So now, you are probably wondering what Nintendo should take from Fallout 3.

That has to be one of the stupidest titles I have ever read. Zelda and Fallout 3 have almost absolutely nothing in common.

It's actually not that bad; some of things they say (I didn't read it all) actually make sense and would make for nice additions.

Man, he forgot the most important thing that would take The Legend of Zelda to the next level. Voice acting.

Maybe for others, but do you really want to ruin Link? He hasn't spoken a word in the entire series has he? Nothing I can recall in the games I played anyhow....

And what if they pick crappy voices eh?

The same thing that would happen if they messed up any other part of the game?

Link shouts if that counts, but Link himself can easily retain the role of the silent protagonist while the rest of the world gets actual voices.

Fallout 3 had some pretty sweet voice acting; Vault Dweller didn't say a word (bar silent text options) throughout the game. It wouldn't really be too hard to pull off.

Like Insanity Prevails said, Link doesn't have to talk, but the other NPCs can. In fact, some RPGs do that, like Demon's Souls and Dragons Age: Origins. I'm fine with that, but it's a bit tiresome to see empty shells talking to Link in a form of text bubbles. It's rather boring now.

Though I'm quite fond of the Zelda series, this article makes some valid points. Especially true about throwing in large worlds but not really filling them up adequately, which leads to empty expanses like Hyrule Field.

Wouldn't it be taking after Oblivion not Fallout 3? It's certainly more 'Legend of Zelda-esque'. I haven't seen any Super Mutants roaming around Hyrule Field lately

Zelda mods on Oblivion are awesome.

I want a zelda that can be played in 1st or 3rd person, and so you don't need to switch between them unless you prefer a certain view/playing style.

Also girl hero of hyrule option plz.

See, this is the problem with games today. Why fix something that isn't broke?
