David Hilton, OXCGN's resident historian, the one who accurately predicted the current location of Assassin's Creed 2, looks at where Assassin's Creed might well venture to in their next iteration.

Ubisoft have already begun work on the following game, so where do you think they will be heading, come check out David's predictions and vote for your time period.

With Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed 2 achieving great first-week sales of 1.6 million units worldwide, a 32 percent increase on the original medieval action stealth title, which sold around 1.1 million copies the first week in 2007, I’ve decided to jump the gun a bit and explore where and when the inevitable third Assassin’s Creed game could take place.

Ubisoft have chosen very well for their first two titles and so they must think very carefully (if they have not already decided) [Ed: which they already have, but just haven't let on about] about the setting of the next installment, especially now that they’ve got the game’s mix of free-running action and mission diversity right this time.

Here is Part 1 of my list of possible time periods and settings that I’ve come up with after pondering the possibilities through the filter of my past education in history. I’d really like to know which one you, as fellow gamers, think would fit the Assassin’s Creed style.

I would hate for it to go to WW2. But the new world is pretty intriguing and good idea.

    World War II? Nonononono.

A female assassin would be a nice change, I suppose, but I don't think a AC game set during the last century would be too good.

Like many, World War 2 is a pretty bad idea, especially considering how many games have done that war to death! However I think the French Revolution is highly likely, or alternatively The New World. Afterwards I think I would be willing to bet on a modern day Assassin's Creed, wrapping up the story. Hard to say, but as long as quality titles like AC2 keep coming out, I know I won't complain.

I think the first European expeditions to Mesoamerica would be the best option:

    • Perfect time period. Went from the Dark Ages in AC1 to the Renaissance in AC2, it would make sense to go into the Age of Exploration.
    • Plenty of historical personas to choose from: Hernan Cortés, Francisco Pizarro, Moctezuma, etc.
    • An piece of Aztec treasure could easily be a Piece of Eden.
    • It would be the perfect climax to all the 2012 and Mayan Long Count calander references.

The difficulty with having a female assassin is the time you need to think of. In most time periods, women couldn't walk around and do as they please like men could. But someone mentioned Feudal Japan or something. I think that would be cool.

The one thing is that it may need to be after Ezio, like Ezio was after Altair.

I'd definately like to see a girl assassin as playable for once.

WW2 isn't that bad an idea. Plenty of things to climb and sabotage and people to assassinate, plus PLANES and TANKS. Not that I say you can drive them, but hey, parachuting out of a PLANE and freefalling DOWN TO THE GROUND and then ASSASSINATING your TARGET sounds kind of BADASS.

Plus, Velvet assassin was garbage and I want a better WW2 assassin game, hehe

I always wanted an Assasins creed set in the pirate era.

Either way Darknet makes a point, women where very restricted back then, so if they want to make a female assassin they'll have to choose there era carefully.

Also, no WWII, it just doesn't fit with the whole AC concept.

I think WW2 would be interesting with the fact that Hitler could have been a Templar, and therefore other Nazis. It would be good to assassinate some of the high ranking guys. However, the introduction of guns would need a whole new combat system. Also, as the games are based on historical events, not much could be done or changed drastically (Killing a really high general or something). I think the woman thing is a bad idea, seeing as they are supposed to be based on Desmond's appearance.

To add, didn't they say Hitler committed suicide or some crap? They can work Hitler in as a final assassination, where his dieing wish is to appear to be hanged/suicide, maybe as a last minute repent? I dunno

Well, an assassin could probably stage it so it's a suicide, and it would be a bigger win for them and blow to the nazis if it was a suicide, so it would make sense to stage it anyway.

That would involve a hell over lot o' raping of history though XD

Not really, they can convincingly add in the new assassin in various parts of that area of history, I know most of the nazi leaders did suicide, am I right? This game could be a noncanon explanation for it.

There was a failed assassination attempt as well on Hitler, they could work that in and have you on the run for a bit or somethign.

It would involve history rape because at the time of suicide the allies had pretty much surrounded him and his forces completely and, bar having Megatron turn up and aid him, the war was already won. That was why he had a breakdown and committed suicide in the first place. So, when he's got all his enemies closing in on him and is days away from being found and killed, what would be the point of going through the trouble of infiltrating their bunker and sticking a bullet from his own gun through his skull?

I'm not saying it's a terrible idea because of it or anything, I'm just saying it would involving a lot of history skull*bleep*ery.

Yeah, I guess they could have you kill the guys who were never found. There was a large number who supposedly fled to South America and some vanished without a trace. I guess they don't have to be really well known targets.

      Don't even think.

You PC gamers have it all, so don't whine. And by all I mean only 1 thing that sets us console gamers from you pc gamers.

      MODDING.

At least you get to do whatever you want with pc versions of the game.

No to Nazis, I think they might regard that part of history as done to death anyway. The French revolution and Napoleonic era sound like a natural choice though, Napoleon would make a great templar, there'd be lots of generals and so forth to make natural targets. Oh and the Napoleonic wars covered most of Europe at one time or another, so they could put even more cities in.

I don't know if a female assassin would work. It has to be a relative to Desmond Miles, and I doubt Desmond would choose to run around in the Animus as a woman...or would he?
